Today was a delightful blend of coastal exploration and culinary indulgence here in Faro. I set out with a sense of adventure, ready to discover the hidden gems of this beautiful region. From the southernmost point of Portugal to tranquil parks and charming local shops, every moment was a new experience.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Limoni Quinta do Lago. The Positano-inspired artwork and hand-painted walls created a unique and inviting atmosphere. I savored a traditional Italian breakfast, fueling up for the day's adventures. It was a delightful start, and I made a mental note to bring Hans here someday; he would absolutely love the authentic Italian cuisine and the elegant ambiance. I can already imagine us sharing a bottle of wine and reminiscing about our trips to Italy.

First on my itinerary was Cabo de Santa Maria, the southernmost point of mainland Portugal. The journey there was an adventure in itself. I took a ferry to Ilha Deserta, also known as Barreta Island, and walked along the shoreline. The island was serene and mostly deserted, save for a few other travelers seeking the same tranquility. The wooden boardwalk wound its way through the dunes, offering stunning views of the coastline. The air was fresh and salty, filled with the cries of seabirds overhead. I was glad I had remembered to bring my binoculars, even though I had forgotten my insect repellent; the birdwatching opportunities were simply too good to miss. I spotted several Audouin's Gulls and Kentish Plovers, their calls echoing in the vast expanse of the sky.

Reaching Cabo de Santa Maria felt like a true accomplishment. The gnarly wooden structure marking the spot was a perfect photo opportunity, and I spent some time simply soaking in the view. The emerald green waters and golden sands stretched out before me, a breathtaking panorama of natural beauty. I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace and solitude, a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The park was alive with activity – families picnicking, children playing, and locals enjoying a leisurely Sunday afternoon.

I found a quiet bench overlooking the water and spent some time journaling, reflecting on my experiences so far. The park provided stunning views of the surrounding waters, and I watched as various bird species flitted among the trees. According to what I read, the park also has an open amphitheater right on the Ria Formosa shoreline. While there were no events scheduled for today, I could easily imagine the space filled with music and laughter. It was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the peaceful ambiance.

I was intrigued by the variety of vegan and vegetarian options available, and I picked up a few items to take back to Bonn. I always enjoy discovering local products and supporting small businesses; it's a way of connecting with the community and bringing a little piece of my travels back home.

As the day drew to a close, I found myself at the Boardwalk, enjoying a leisurely stroll along the Ria Formosa. I watched as the sky transformed into a canvas of orange and pink, a breathtaking display of natural beauty. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

I also learned that the walk also passes through traditional salt pans that have been used for centuries and are still an economically vital productive base of the region.

Tonight, I'm planning a quiet dinner at Gigi's Beach restaurant Quinta do Lago. I've heard wonderful things about the seafood and the stunning views, and I'm looking forward to experiencing it for myself. I'm also excited about tomorrow's adventure – a boat tour with Formosamar - Boat Tours Passeios na Ria Formosa. I'm eager to explore more of the Ria Formosa and discover its hidden gems. And perhaps, I'll even find a natural spring to take a refreshing dip.
