A Day of Wonders in Cusco
Today was a day of exploration and immersion into the vibrant culture of Cusco. I woke up with a sense of excitement, eager to discover the hidden gems that this historic city had to offer. From panoramic views to bustling markets, every moment was filled with new sights, sounds, and experiences.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Artisano Regocijo Restaurant. The restaurant is located in Plaza Regocijo, just a block from Plaza de Armas. As we stepped inside, we were immediately transported back in time. The building, once the Casa de la Moneda during the colonial era, exuded history and charm. The architecture was beautiful, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxed morning meal. I savored every bite, knowing that this was just the beginning of a day filled with culinary delights. Hans enjoyed his coffee, while Sophie was delighted with the pastries. It was the perfect way to start our day of exploration.
After breakfast, we set off to explore Wakapunku. The name 'Wakapunku' itself sparked my curiosity. It was a short distance from the city center. The hotel where Wakapunku is located is nestled on Calle Choquechaca. As we approached, the anticipation grew.

The views from MIRADOR SUCSO AUCAYLLE were simply breathtaking. The landscape stretched out before us, a tapestry of rolling hills and distant mountains. I took a deep breath, feeling grateful for the opportunity to witness such natural beauty. The crisp mountain air invigorated my senses, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me. Sophie, ever the artist, was captivated by the scenery and spent a good amount of time sketching the landscape. Hans, with his love for woodworking, admired the way the natural light played on the hillsides, imagining the textures and patterns he could create in his craft.
The beauty of a place lies not just in its landmarks, but in the way it makes you feel.
Next on our list was the Handicraft Center Cusco. I was eager to immerse myself in the local culture and find some unique souvenirs to take back home. As we entered the center, we were immediately greeted by a riot of colors and textures. Stalls lined the aisles, each one overflowing with handmade treasures. I was immediately drawn to the intricate textiles, the vibrant paintings, and the delicate jewelry. The vendors were friendly and welcoming, eager to share the stories behind their crafts.

I spent hours wandering through the market, admiring the skill and artistry of the local artisans. I picked up a beautiful hand-woven scarf for myself, a colorful painting for my study back in Sarnen, and a set of small wooden carvings for Sophie, knowing she would appreciate the craftsmanship. The prices were reasonable, and I felt good supporting the local economy. It was a truly immersive experience, and I left with a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of Peru.
For lunch, we decided to try PERUCHO Restaurant Craft Beer. I had heard great things about their Peruvian cuisine and craft beer selection. The restaurant had a cozy, homey atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. We started with some Pisco Sours, a classic Peruvian cocktail, and then ordered a variety of dishes to share. The flavors were bold and vibrant, a true celebration of Peruvian gastronomy. Sophie, who usually sticks to familiar foods, surprised us by trying the Lomo Saltado and declaring it delicious. Hans enjoyed sampling the different craft beers, each one unique and flavorful. It was a delightful meal, and we left feeling satisfied and energized for the rest of our day.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Toto's House for dinner. I had read about their traditional Peruvian cuisine and their commitment to using fresh, local ingredients. The restaurant was bustling with activity, but we were quickly seated at a table with a great view. The menu was extensive, and I had a hard time deciding what to order. In the end, I opted for the Ají de Gallina, a creamy chicken stew served with rice. The dish was rich and flavorful, a comforting end to a day of exploration. Hans chose the Pachamanca, a traditional Andean dish cooked in an earth oven, and Sophie enjoyed a hearty quinoa soup. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was lively. It was the perfect way to celebrate our day of discovery in Cusco.
