Today was a day of contrasts, a beautiful blend of serene landscapes and vibrant city life. Our day began with a hearty breakfast at El Albergue Restaurant in Ollantaytambo. The setting itself was charming, with its rustic decor and views of the surrounding mountains. I savored every bite, knowing we had a long day of exploration ahead. The staff was incredibly helpful, making sure we had everything we needed before setting off. I even managed to refill my water bottle there, remembering how I'd forgotten my portable charger and sunglasses back in Toronto. It's the little things that make a big difference on these adventures.
Our first stop was Upis Qocha, a place of stunning natural beauty. The air was crisp and clean, and the views were simply breathtaking. December in this region brings a unique charm, with the landscape transforming into a tapestry of colors. The weather was moderately chilly, but that only added to the invigorating experience. We spent hours wandering around, taking photos, and simply soaking in the tranquility. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I even took a moment to do some mindful breathing, channeling my yoga practice amidst the stunning scenery. It felt like a world away from my usual community outreach coordination in Toronto!
From there, we ventured to Bosque de Piedras, a place that felt like stepping into another world. The rock formations were incredible, shaped by centuries of wind and weather. It was fascinating to wander through this natural labyrinth, marveling at the unique shapes and sizes of the stones. The altitude here is quite high, over 4,100 meters above sea level. Fortunately, we were all well-acclimatized by this point in our trek, but I made sure to remind everyone to take it easy and stay hydrated. The landscape was vast and surreal, a true testament to the power of nature.

To travel is to take a journey into yourself.
After our exploration of the natural wonders, we made our way back to Cusco, ready for an evening of culinary delights. Our first stop was Mamá Jama Restaurant for lunch. The restaurant had a vibrant atmosphere, and the menu was filled with traditional Peruvian dishes. I decided to try the Lomo Saltado de Alpaca, and it was absolutely delicious. The alpaca was tender and flavorful, and the combination of spices was perfect. My friends opted for the Chicharrón Cusqueño, and the Filete de Pechuga de Pollo, all of which were equally satisfying. It was the perfect way to refuel after a day of hiking and exploring.

As the day drew to a close, we headed to MAP Café for dinner. Located in the courtyard of the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, the setting was simply magical. The all-glass walls provided a privileged view of the surroundings, creating a truly unique dining experience. The fusion menu was equally impressive, with unique takes on local favorites. I opted for the quinoa canelones with truffle perfumed, and it was divine. The blend of flavors was exquisite, and the presentation was impeccable. The Lucuma kisses in five textures was the perfect way to end the meal. The desserts are such works of art you're sure to want a photo before digging in.

To cap off the evening, we decided to visit Oxygen Lounge and Cafe. After a long day at high altitude, the idea of oxygen therapy was incredibly appealing. I had heard about the benefits of oxygen therapy for altitude sickness, jet lag, and fatigue, and I was eager to give it a try. The lounge itself was cozy and inviting, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I opted for a 20-minute session, and it was surprisingly refreshing. I felt more energized and alert, ready to take on the rest of our adventure. Some of my friends also tried it and felt the same way. It was a unique experience, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Cusco.

As I reflect on today's adventures, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and culture of Peru. From the serene landscapes to the vibrant city life, it's been a journey that has touched my heart and soul. And to be able to share this with my friends makes it even more special. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings, as we prepare to visit the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and the Cochahuasi Animal Sanctuary. Plus, I'm looking forward to breakfast at the Novotel Cusco Restaurant, lunch at Inti House, and dinner at Republica Del Pisco. And of course, a visit to the Mercado Central de San Pedro for some local shopping. It's going to be another amazing day!

Before I turn in for the night, I'm making sure to pack my hiking boots, warm clothing, camera, reusable water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, and first aid kit. I've learned my lesson about forgetting essentials! I'm also mentally preparing myself for the crowds at Machu Picchu, as December tends to get busier closer to Christmas. But no matter what, I'm determined to make the most of every moment.
Goodnight from Cusco, and stay tuned for more adventures!
