Today was a day of diving deep into Marrakech's rich history and vibrant culture, a journey that took me through crumbling palaces, art-filled museums, and some of the most exquisite dining experiences the city has to offer. It's days like these that remind me why I love to travel – to connect with the past, savor the present, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Rooftop Restaurant Koulchi Zine in the heart of the Medina. The rooftop setting offered stunning views of Marrakech waking up, bathed in the soft morning light. The restaurant's Beatles theme added a quirky touch, and the vegan options were a delightful surprise. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast with a vegan twist, enjoying plant-based balls with spaghetti while soaking in the panoramic views. It was the perfect way to start a day of exploration.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we ventured towards the El Badi Palace, a site I had been eagerly anticipating. As we approached, the sheer scale of the palace ruins was immediately striking. Built in the late 16th century by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur to commemorate his victory over the Portuguese, El Badi Palace was once a symbol of immense power and wealth. Although much of its former glory has faded, walking through the vast courtyard, I could still imagine the grandeur that once filled these walls. The central pool reflected the clear sky, and the remains of the pavilions whispered tales of lavish receptions and royal celebrations. The storks nesting atop the ruins added a touch of life to the historical site, a reminder that even in decay, life finds a way.

The ceramics and pottery from Fes and Safi were also remarkable, displaying the evolution of styles and techniques in Moroccan pottery. The museum's exhibits also included traditional Moroccan clothing and textiles, such as caftans, Berber carpets, and kilims, each telling a story of Moroccan life and history. Wandering through the museum, I felt a deep appreciation for the skill and artistry of Moroccan craftsmen.

I decided to try a bit of both, starting with a Moroccan salad and then indulging in a homemade butter and sage tortellini. The flavors were exquisite, a perfect blend of Italian and Moroccan culinary traditions. The ambiance of Pepe Nero was equally delightful. The open-air courtyard, surrounded by water features and intricate lanterns, created a magical setting for a memorable meal.

As the day drew to a close, we headed to Dar Justo for dinner, a riad that also houses a restaurant. From what I've gathered, Dar Justo is more than just a restaurant; it's an immersive experience curated by Spanish artist Justo Almendros. The riad itself is a work of art, showcasing a stunning balance between originality, authenticity, and eco-friendly modernity. The atmosphere was intimate and romantic, with soft lighting and traditional Moroccan decor. The menu featured a range of Moroccan dishes, each prepared with fresh, local ingredients. I savored a tagine, its rich flavors a testament to the culinary heritage of Morocco. The service was impeccable, with the staff making us feel like honored guests in their home.

I ordered a classic cocktail and listened to tales of the hotel's celebrated guests, including Winston Churchill himself.
