A Sensory Sunday in Marrakech

Today was a vibrant collage of art, nature, and culinary experiences, a true feast for the senses. From whimsical gardens to the rich flavors of Moroccan cuisine, Marrakech continued to reveal its multifaceted charm. Sharing these moments with my friends made it all the more special, creating memories we'll cherish long after we've left this magical city.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Bakchich Cafe. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the sweet scent of Moroccan pastries, setting the perfect tone for the day. I opted for a traditional tagine, savoring the complex blend of spices and tender vegetables. It was the ideal fuel for our upcoming adventures. I remember when David and I first started dating, he tried to make a tagine. Let's just say it was an experience – edible, but definitely not blog-worthy!

With our appetites satisfied, we set off to explore Anima, André Heller's enchanting garden. The drive itself was captivating, the landscape gradually transforming as we left the city behind. The promise of snow-capped Atlas Mountains in the distance was exciting. I was looking forward to seeing them, especially since I haven't seen snow since visiting my family back in Bermuda for Christmas a few years ago. The gardens were a whimsical wonderland, a vibrant explosion of color and creativity. Sculptures by renowned artists like Keith Haring and Picasso nestled among exotic plants, creating a surreal and captivating experience.

Wandering through the garden, I felt a sense of childlike wonder, each corner revealing a new surprise. The air was filled with the sweet fragrance of blossoms, and the sounds of birds chirping added to the magical atmosphere. It was a welcome escape from the bustling city, a tranquil oasis where art and nature intertwined seamlessly. My friends and I spent hours exploring, snapping photos, and simply soaking in the beauty around us. Jasmine would have loved this place! I need to remember to bring her back someday.

Leaving Anima, we were ready for our next adventure: a trek in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains with Trek In Morocco. Although we only had time for a short hike, it was enough to appreciate the stunning landscapes and breathtaking views. The air was crisp and clean, and the panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys were simply awe-inspiring. Our guide shared fascinating insights into the local Berber culture and the region's history, enriching our experience even further. I felt a deep connection to the land, a sense of peace and tranquility that is hard to find in the hustle and bustle of city life.

After our invigorating hike, we were ready for a delicious lunch at Cuisine De Terroir. The restaurant's charming ambiance and inviting aroma drew us in. We savored a variety of traditional Moroccan dishes, each bursting with flavor and spices. I particularly enjoyed the tagine, a slow-cooked stew with tender meat and vegetables. It was a comforting and satisfying meal that perfectly complemented our day's adventures. The presentation of each dish was also a work of art. Everything was delicious and super fresh!

In the late afternoon, we ventured into the heart of Marrakech to explore Marrakech Artisan Jewellery. I was on the hunt for a special souvenir, something that would remind me of this incredible journey. The shop was a treasure trove of handcrafted jewelry, each piece unique and exquisite. I spent hours browsing, admiring the intricate designs and vibrant colors. I finally settled on a beautiful silver ring with delicate Berber carvings, a perfect reminder of my time in Marrakech.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to La Grande Table Marocaine for a truly unforgettable dining experience. Located in the Royal Mansour, the restaurant exuded elegance and sophistication. The ambiance was magical, with soft lighting, intricate décor, and live Moroccan music. The service was impeccable, and the food was simply divine. I savored every bite of the exquisitely prepared dishes, each a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Morocco. The lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection. The evening felt like a fairytale, a perfect ending to a perfect day.

I must admit, the prices were high, but it was worth it. It's not every day that you get to dine in such a luxurious setting and experience such exceptional cuisine. The other reviews I read online were right! The staff were dressed in traditional garb and the service was the best we've had in Morocco so far.

Reflecting on the day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and culture of Marrakech. From the whimsical gardens of Anima to the breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains, and the exquisite flavors of Moroccan cuisine, it was a day of sensory delights that I will never forget.

Tomorrow, we're planning a desert adventure! We will be exploring the Palmeraie by quad and buggy, and experiencing the traditional camel ride. I'm a little nervous about the camel ride, but I'm sure it will be an unforgettable experience. And to cap it all off, we're having dinner at La Mamounia, which I've heard is an absolute must-see. We also plan to visit SKY-BAR for a nightcap. I can't wait to see what adventures tomorrow brings!
