Sculpting Memories in Paros
Today was a beautiful blend of culture, history, and relaxation as we continued our family adventure here in Paros. It's days like these that remind me why I love to travel – the chance to immerse ourselves in the local culture, learn something new, and create lasting memories with my family.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Kastro art lounge bistrot in Parikia. The cozy atmosphere and beautiful view of the town set the perfect tone for the day. I ordered a strong Greek coffee, while David enjoyed a hearty omelet, and Jasmine opted for a light crepe. It’s amazing how a good breakfast can energize you for a day of exploration! Kastro art lounge bistrot has a calming ambience and curated decor. Guests rave about the perfectly cooked chicken filet and the homemade sauces. The staff is friendly and hospitable, and they are known for recommending local wines.

After breakfast, we set off to explore the Hellenistic Sculpture Workshop. Recent excavations at the Floga archaeological site have revealed that this workshop was built atop an older residential complex. The site is located in Parikia. As we wandered through the site, I was struck by the artistry and craftsmanship of the ancient sculptors. It’s incredible to think that these sculptures were created over two thousand years ago! Jasmine was particularly fascinated by the unfinished statues of Aphrodite, while David enjoyed examining the various tools and molds that were used in the sculpting process.

Sometimes, the most beautiful discoveries are found in the quiet corners of the world, waiting to be unearthed.
The tradition of Greek sculpture dates back to the 8th century BCE. By the early 6th century BCE, life-sized marble statues began to appear. Greek sculpture became increasingly realistic and lifelike over the centuries. The Greeks began quarrying the fine-grained, pure-white Parian marble on the island of Paros during the Classical period, which began around 500 BCE. Hellenistic sculpture refers to sculptures created between about 323 and 31 BCE. Its style is characterized by a gradual departure from the idealized forms of the Classical period.
Next on our itinerary was Saint Anna Square. Nestled in the heart of Paros, this charming square is a hub of activity, surrounded by traditional architecture and local shops. We took a leisurely stroll through the square, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and admiring the stunning views. Jasmine picked up a few handmade crafts from a local artisan, while David and I enjoyed a refreshing drink at one of the many cafes. Saint Anna Square is a gathering point for locals and visitors alike. In the evenings, the square comes alive with music and laughter.

For lunch, we decided to try Il sussuro del pino, a restaurant known for its authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. The cozy atmosphere and beautiful garden setting made it the perfect place to relax and refuel. I ordered the fresh fish, while David opted for the prawns, and Jasmine tried the classic Greek salad. Everything was delicious, and the service was excellent! Il sussuro del pino is a rustic garden restaurant with delicious fresh fish and salad. The atmosphere feels special and different from other places in Paros.

As we approached the dock, we were greeted by the soothing sounds of the waves and the gentle sea breeze. The dock offers stunning panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, making it a perfect backdrop for photographs. The relaxed atmosphere encourages visitors to take their time and enjoy the simplicity of island life.

The surrounding area is dotted with quaint tavernas and shops where tourists can immerse themselves in the local culture. For dinner, we decided to indulge in a fine dining experience at Matsuhisa Paros. The restaurant has an open-air space with an autonomous personality. It blends Japanese minimalism with Cycladic and Mediterranean touches.

The service was impeccable, and the ambiance was sophisticated and elegant. Matsuhisa is known for its exceptional quality and unforgettable experiences. The restaurant is nestled in an elegant Mediterranean garden by the sea.
To cap off our wonderful day, we headed to Fotis All Day Bar for a nightcap. This beach bar is known for its artwork from local artists and comfy tables on the shore. I enjoyed a glass of local wine, while David savored a craft cocktail, and Jasmine sipped on a refreshing smoothie. The bar transitions seamlessly from artisanal coffees and elevated brunches to golden-hour cocktails and late-night indulgence. The curated playlists and impeccable service create a laid-back luxury atmosphere.

As I sit here reflecting on our day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and culture of Paros with my family. Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Cycladic Idol Head Statue, Way to Faneromeni (Panagía) Church, and Anemómylos. I can’t wait to see what adventures await us on our final day here in Paros! We will also have breakfast at Daverona, lunch at Open Garden Restaurant, and dinner at Hellas. Before heading to the airport, we will visit the shop ON AURA TOUT VU. It’s hard to believe our trip is coming to an end, but I know we will cherish these memories forever.
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” I feel like with each passing day, we are turning another page in our family’s travelogue, and I am excited to see what stories we will discover next.
