Immerse yourself in the tranquility of Ourika Valley, savoring local cuisine and enjoying the breathtaking landscapes on a solo adventure.

Finding Peace in the Valley
Today was a day of simple pleasures and quiet reflection in the heart of the Ourika Valley. Leaving behind the hustle of previous days, I embraced the serene atmosphere, allowing myself to be fully present in the moment. It was a day to savor the local flavors, connect with the natural beauty, and simply be.

My day began with a delightful breakfast at Restaurant La Nature. The morning air was crisp and clean, carrying the scent of blooming flowers and the distant sound of the Ourika River. I enjoyed a traditional Moroccan breakfast, complete with freshly baked bread, local honey, and aromatic mint tea. While the reviews I read mentioned mixed experiences, I found the setting peaceful and the breakfast satisfying, providing a perfect start to my day.

After breakfast, I decided to explore the area around Ourika Lodge. This ‘healing place’ as some call it, is nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of the valley. I didn't stay there, but I was able to appreciate the views and the overall tranquility of the area. The lodge is located on top of one of the oldest Jewish villages in Morocco called Anrar, offering panoramic views of the Ourika Valley. The fresh, clean air and organically produced food are said to make it an ideal place to reconnect with oneself.

I spent some time simply wandering, taking in the sights and sounds of the valley. The lush greenery, the gentle flow of the river, and the towering Atlas Mountains in the distance created a sense of awe and wonder. I paused by the riverbank, watching local women washing clothes and children playing in the water. It was a scene of everyday life, yet it felt extraordinary in its simplicity and connection to nature.
Sometimes, the greatest adventures are found not in grand gestures, but in the quiet moments of simple living.
For lunch, I ventured to Cafè Restaurant Adrar. This charming spot is known for its traditional Moroccan cuisine and warm hospitality. I indulged in a tagine, a slow-cooked stew of meat and vegetables, infused with fragrant spices. The tagine was served in a traditional earthenware pot, adding to the authenticity of the experience. The refreshing mint tea, a staple of Moroccan hospitality, was the perfect accompaniment. The restaurant occasionally hosts live music evenings, adding to the lively atmosphere, but it was quiet when I was there.

In the late afternoon, I decided to visit Dar Hafida, a local bar known for its authentic Moroccan ambiance. I sipped on a refreshing drink, enjoying the company of locals and fellow travelers. The atmosphere was relaxed and convivial, with conversations flowing easily between people from different backgrounds and cultures. It was a reminder of the universal human desire for connection and community.

As the sun began to set, I made my way to Restaurant Elzguerona for dinner. This restaurant is celebrated for its traditional dishes from the Ourika region and Moroccan cuisine, with vegetables and medicinal plants grown on-site. I savored a delicious meal of grilled meats and fresh salads, all prepared with local ingredients. The flavors were vibrant and authentic, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of the region.

The drive back to my guesthouse was filled with a sense of contentment and gratitude. The Ourika Valley had offered me a day of peace, beauty, and connection. It was a reminder that sometimes, the greatest joys in life are found in the simplest of experiences.
Tomorrow, I plan to visit Anima (André Heller Garden) and La muraille de l'ourika. I’m looking forward to more exploration before my departure on Sunday. I’m also hoping to pick up a few last-minute souvenirs at Funky Cool Medina before heading to the airport.
This solo journey has been an incredible experience, allowing me to reflect on my work and my passion for sustainability. I’m excited to share more insights and stories from this adventure on Evendo.
I am also thinking about David and Jasmine back home. I know they would love to explore the gardens and experience the local culture. I will have to plan a trip back here with them sometime soon. Until then, I will continue to share my experiences and inspire others to embark on their own journeys of discovery and connection.
