Adventures in Chapada Diamantina: Exploring Brazil's Natural Wonder
Day 11: Farewell, Chapada: Reflecting on Brazil's Breathtaking Beauty
Concluding our Chapada Diamantina adventure with Riachinho's charm and Ferro Doido's majesty, savoring local flavors and unforgettable moments.
A Fond Farewell to Chapada Diamantina
As the sun sets on our final day in Chapada Diamantina, I find myself filled with a mix of contentment and a tinge of melancholy. This trip has been nothing short of spectacular, a true immersion into the heart of Brazil's natural beauty. From the moment we arrived, the landscapes have captivated us, the culture has embraced us, and the adventures have tested us in the best possible way. Today, we savored the last drops of this incredible journey, knowing we'll carry these memories with us long after we've left.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. I opted for a traditional Brazilian breakfast, eager to soak in every last bit of local flavor. The meal was simple but satisfying, fueling us up for our final explorations. The aroma of fresh coffee mingled with the sweet scent of tropical fruits, creating a perfect start to the day. I even managed to scribble down a few notes for a Jamaican twist on some of the dishes; Klara would be proud of my culinary curiosity.
With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off to Riachinho, a charming waterfall known for its accessibility and serene beauty. The drive itself was a treat, with the landscape unfolding before us like a living painting. The red earth, the verdant vegetation, and the clear blue sky created a vibrant contrast that was simply breathtaking. Arriving at Riachinho, we were greeted by the gentle sound of cascading water. The trail to the waterfall was easy, a welcome change after some of the more challenging hikes we'd tackled earlier in the trip. The path was paved, making it accessible for everyone, and we strolled along, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

Reaching the waterfall, we were met with a stunning sight. Riachinho is a relatively small waterfall, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm. The water cascaded down a series of rocks into a large, deep pool, perfect for a refreshing swim. The surrounding rock formations provided ample space for visitors to relax, sunbathe, and take in the panoramic views of the Serra do Sincorá. Of course, I couldn't resist taking a dip in the cool, clear water. It was invigorating, washing away any lingering fatigue from our previous adventures. As I floated on my back, gazing up at the sky, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for this incredible experience.
The beauty of a place is not just in what you see, but in how it makes you feel.
After our refreshing interlude at Riachinho, we packed up our gear and headed towards our next destination: Cachoeira Ferro Doido. This waterfall, whose name translates to Crazy Iron Waterfall, is one of the most impressive landscapes in Chapada Diamantina. Located in a canyon over 100 meters high, it is truly a sight to behold, especially during the rainy season when multiple immense waterfalls can be seen. To get there, we drove along the BA-052, also known as Estrada do Feijão (Bean Road), until kilometer 254. The journey was an adventure in itself, offering stunning views of the region's diverse flora and fauna.

Upon arriving at Cachoeira Ferro Doido, we were immediately struck by its grandeur. The canyon walls towered above us, framing the cascading water in a dramatic display of nature's power. Although it wasn't the rainy season, we could still appreciate the beauty and magnitude of the falls. We opted to view the waterfall from the top of the canyon, where we could see the immensity of the rock face. The views were breathtaking, and we spent a good hour simply taking it all in, snapping photos, and marveling at the sheer scale of the landscape.
Before heading back to Lençóis for our final dinner, we made a quick stop at MUNDO NATURAL, a local shop [Day Itinerary]. I was on the hunt for some unique Brazilian spices and ingredients to take back to Berlin and incorporate into my cooking. I found a treasure trove of local products, from exotic peppers to aromatic herbs. I even picked up some licuri, a local coconut, after hearing about it at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. I'm excited to experiment with these new flavors and create some fusion dishes that blend Jamaican and Brazilian cuisine.

For our final dinner in Chapada Diamantina, we returned to Restaurante Sabor da Serra. We wanted to end our trip on a high note, savoring the flavors and ambiance of this wonderful establishment. The restaurant was bustling with activity, filled with locals and tourists alike, all eager to enjoy the delicious food and warm hospitality. I decided to try the Risoto Baiano, a dish that Katiana from Sabor da Serra had recommended. It was a flavorful explosion of local ingredients, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. As I savored each bite, I reflected on our incredible journey through Chapada Diamantina.
This trip has been more than just a vacation; it's been an experience that has touched my soul. I've been humbled by the beauty of the landscapes, inspired by the resilience of the local people, and invigorated by the adventures we've undertaken. I've discovered new flavors, learned about a different culture, and made memories that will last a lifetime. As a chef, I'm constantly seeking new culinary inspiration, and Chapada Diamantina has provided me with an abundance of it. I can't wait to return to Berlin and share these experiences with Klara, Naomi, and the rest of my community at Yaad Vibes.
As we prepare to leave this natural wonder, I'm already dreaming of our next adventure. Who knows where our travels will take us next? But one thing is for sure: we'll always carry a piece of Chapada Diamantina in our hearts.
I am grateful for the experiences and the memories made. Until next time, Chapada!
Tomorrow, we embark on our journey back home, filled with stories and souvenirs to share. It's the end of this adventure, but the beginning of countless memories.
