Solo Adventure in the Misty Mountains of Tam Dao
Day 7: Chasing Waterfalls and City Vibes in Tam Dao
A day of natural beauty at Thác Vĩnh Ninh and vibrant city life at Quảng Trường Thời Đại, capturing the essence of Tam Dao.
A Day of Contrasts in Tam Dao
Today was a fascinating blend of nature and urban exploration here in Tam Dao. It's amazing how much variety this mountain town offers. From the tranquility of cascading waterfalls to the bustling energy of its central square, I felt like I experienced two different worlds in a single day. I am also very excited about tomorrow, when I plan to visit Thác Thẩm Thình and Cây thông Mã Vĩ.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Nhà hàng Phố núi. I enjoyed a traditional Vietnamese breakfast, fueling up for a day of exploration. It's always a pleasure to start the day with local flavors; it really sets the tone for the adventures ahead. After breakfast, I headed towards Thác Vĩnh Ninh.
The journey to Thác Vĩnh Ninh was an adventure in itself. The road wound through lush landscapes, offering glimpses of the stunning natural beauty that Tam Dao is known for. As I got closer, I could hear the distant rumble of the waterfall, which heightened my anticipation. The weather in Tam Dao in November is generally pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 16°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities. Today was no exception, with clear skies and a gentle breeze.
Arriving at Thác Vĩnh Ninh, I was immediately struck by its serene beauty. The waterfall cascaded down the rocks, creating a refreshing mist that kissed my face. The area was surrounded by dense foliage, providing a cool and tranquil atmosphere. I spent a good couple of hours simply sitting by the falls, listening to the soothing sounds of the water and soaking in the natural beauty.

I took some photos, trying to capture the essence of this beautiful place. It's challenging to convey the feeling of being there, the cool mist on your skin and the symphony of nature all around you, but I did my best. I even saw a few locals enjoying a refreshing dip in the natural pool at the base of the falls. Although tempting, I decided to just enjoy the view and the peaceful ambiance.
Nature's beauty is a gift that fills the soul with peace and wonder.
After my refreshing visit to Thác Vĩnh Ninh, I decided to experience a different side of Tam Dao. I made my way to Quảng Trường Thời Đại, or Times Square , as it's known here. It was quite a contrast to the tranquility of the waterfall!

Quảng Trường Thời Đại in Tam Dao is a vibrant hub of activity. The square was bustling with locals and tourists alike, creating a lively atmosphere. There were shops selling local crafts, cafes spilling out onto the sidewalks, and street performers entertaining the crowds. It felt like a completely different world compared to the serene natural setting I had just left behind.
I strolled around the square, taking in the sights and sounds. I stopped at a local cafe for a strong Vietnamese coffee, watching the world go by. The architecture around the square was interesting, a mix of modern and traditional Vietnamese styles. I also noticed several large LED screens displaying advertisements, a nod to the original Times Square in New York.
While wandering around, I also popped into SHOP NHƯ HÍP, a local shop. I was hoping to find some unique souvenirs to bring back home. I ended up buying a beautiful hand-embroidered piece that depicted the Tam Dao mountains. It will be a wonderful reminder of this trip.

For lunch, I decided to try SUSU BBQ, a restaurant known for its grilled specialties. I ordered a selection of grilled meats and vegetables, all cooked to perfection. It was a delicious and satisfying meal, and the perfect way to refuel after a busy day of sightseeing. I also enjoyed talking to the friendly staff, who were eager to share their local knowledge and recommendations.

As the day drew to a close, I decided to have dinner at Nhà hàng Nam Nhung. This restaurant came highly recommended, and I was eager to try it out. The restaurant was located in a prime spot, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was excellent.

I ordered a variety of local specialties, including some fresh seafood and traditional Vietnamese dishes. Each dish was bursting with flavor, and I thoroughly enjoyed the culinary experience. It was the perfect way to end a day of contrasts, reflecting on the natural beauty and urban vibrancy I had encountered.
After dinner, I took a leisurely stroll back to my guesthouse, enjoying the cool evening air. The town was quieter now, but still retained a sense of energy and charm. I felt grateful for the experiences I had had today, and excited for what tomorrow would bring.
As I reflect on today, I am reminded of the importance of embracing contrasts and finding beauty in unexpected places. Tam Dao has shown me that nature and urban life can coexist harmoniously, each offering its own unique charm. It's a lesson I will carry with me long after I leave this enchanting mountain town.
Tomorrow, I'm planning to visit Thác Thẩm Thình and Cây thông Mã Vĩ [if last day of trip, merge in “Trip end”]. I’ve heard great things about both, and I’m looking forward to exploring more of Tam Dao's natural wonders. I might even check out Mây Pub Tam Đảo in the evening for a relaxing drink. Until then, good night from Tam Dao!
