Sofia's Solo Escape to the Serene Con Dao Islands
Day 9: Nature's Embrace: Discovering Con Dao's Wild Side
Immersing myself in Con Dao's natural beauty, from exploring the national park to savoring local cuisine and tranquil moments by the sea.
A Day of Exploration and Serenity
Today was all about embracing the raw beauty of Con Dao, a blend of nature's wonders and serene moments. I ventured into the heart of the island, seeking to understand its ecological treasures and historical echoes. It was a day of simple pleasures, from the vibrant flavors of local cuisine to the quietude of its untouched landscapes.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at MAY BISTRO. The aroma of Vietnamese coffee filled the air, mingling with the scent of freshly baked pastries. Fuelled and ready, I set off to explore Côn Đảo National Park, eager to discover the island's protected wilderness.
The Côn Đảo National Park Tourist Office was my first stop. There, I gathered maps and information about the park's trails and conservation efforts. The park itself is a marvel, encompassing both land and sea, and is home to a diverse ecosystem. I learned about the park's commitment to preserving the island's natural beauty and its role as a sanctuary for various species, including sea turtles, dolphins, and rare flora.

Armed with my map, I chose a trail that promised panoramic views and a chance to immerse myself in the island's lush tropical forest. As I trekked, the sounds of the city faded behind me, replaced by the symphony of the jungle. The air was thick with humidity, and the sunlight filtered through the canopy, creating dappled patterns on the forest floor. I was on the lookout for the Pulo Condore Bow-fingered Gecko, a reptile found only on Con Dao, but unfortunately, I didn't spot any.
The true essence of travel lies not just in seeing new places, but in experiencing them fully, engaging with their culture, and allowing them to transform you.
After a morning of hiking, I found myself craving a taste of local cuisine. I headed to Nhà hàng Poulo Condore for lunch, a restaurant known for its authentic Vietnamese dishes. I savored a plate of fresh seafood, expertly prepared with local herbs and spices. The meal was a delightful explosion of flavors, a testament to the island's culinary heritage.
In the afternoon, I decided to indulge in a little luxury. I visited the Six Senses Con Dao, a resort renowned for its stunning villas, private pools, and commitment to sustainability. Although a stay there wasn't in my budget, I was able to experience the serene atmosphere and admire the architecture, which blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The resort is designed to reflect a traditional fishing village, with meticulous attention to detail. I imagined myself relaxing by one of the resort's many pools, perhaps even indulging in a spa treatment.

Later in the afternoon, I stopped by ST MART siêu thị mini Côn Đảo to pick up a few essentials. It was a great opportunity to observe local life and browse the selection of local products. I grabbed a few snacks and a refreshing drink, ready for an evening by the sea.

As the sun began to set, I made my way to ULA Restaurant & Bar Con Dao for dinner. The restaurant had a charming, cozy atmosphere, with a beach bar vibe and cool decorations. I ordered a prawn mango salad and a refreshing cocktail, enjoying the laid-back atmosphere and friendly service. The beef steak and tofu plates also looked delicious. As I savored my meal, I reflected on the day's adventures. Con Dao had captivated me with its natural beauty, rich history, and warm hospitality.

October in Con Dao is a transitional period, with the rainy season gradually coming to an end. The weather is generally mild, with average temperatures ranging from 24°C to 30°C. While there may be occasional rain showers, the skies are mostly sunny, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities.
Tomorrow, I plan to explore more of Con Son Island, including Bãi Suối Nóng (Hot Springs Beach). I'm also looking forward to enjoying breakfast at Infinity Cafe & Restaurant and dinner at Kwai's Bistro Con Dao. Before heading off to bed, I'm planning to stop by Phiên Khúc coffee and food for a nightcap.
As I sit here, penning my experiences, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to explore this enchanting island. Con Dao has a way of slowing down time, allowing you to connect with nature and discover the simple joys of life. It's a place where you can lose yourself in the beauty of the surroundings and find yourself in the process.
Con Dao, with its blend of serene landscapes and historical depth, has proven to be a journey of self-discovery. Each day here is a gentle reminder of the beauty that exists when we embrace nature and immerse ourselves in the present moment. As I prepare for my final days on this island, I am filled with anticipation for the new experiences that await, and a promise to carry the tranquility of Con Dao within me, long after I leave its shores. My solo journey continues to be a testament to the transformative power of travel, and I am eager to see what tomorrow brings.
And perhaps, I'll treat myself to that spa treatment someday. After all, a little self-care never hurt anyone.
As Maximilian and Elena are far away, I miss them and look forward to telling them all about Con Dao.
In the meantime, I'll continue to explore, savor, and share my experiences with you, my dear readers. Until tomorrow!
