Today was a day of contrasts, blending the quiet charm of Santorini's lesser-known corners with the iconic beauty that draws so many to this island. It’s amazing how quickly one can transition from tranquil beaches to vibrant cultural landmarks. I set out with my friends, eager to explore beyond the caldera views and delve deeper into the island's hidden gems.

Our morning began with a hearty breakfast at Parea Tavern in Fira. This place is a gem! It’s centrally located and offers stunning views of the Aegean Sea, which is always a plus. The term Parea means friends coming together, and that's exactly the vibe we felt. I had the Santorini salad, a delightful mix of local tomatoes, capers, and cheese, while my friends opted for the moussaka and souvlaki. It was the perfect way to fuel up for the day’s adventures.

After breakfast, we headed to Monolithos, a quieter beach on the eastern coast of Santorini. It’s only about a 15-20 minute drive from Fira, following signs towards the airport. Monolithos is known for its black sand and shallow waters, making it popular with families. The beach was incredibly peaceful, a welcome change from the more crowded spots on the island. We strolled along the shore, enjoying the gentle breeze and the sound of the waves. The black sand felt warm beneath our feet, and the clear water was so inviting. I even spotted a few locals setting up for some kite-surfing, which looked like a lot of fun! I made a mental note to try it out if we have time before we leave.

Next on our itinerary was Santorini Horse Riding. I was particularly excited about this, as I’ve always found horseback riding to be such a freeing experience. We drove to the stables, where we were greeted by Manos and Alex, two brothers who run the place. They were incredibly friendly and professional, and it was clear that they truly cared for their horses. They matched us with horses that suited our experience levels – mine was a gentle beauty named Athena.

The ride took us along the black sandy beach, and it was absolutely magical. The horses were well-trained and easy to handle, even for my friend who was a complete beginner. As we rode, Alex shared stories about the island and its history, pointing out interesting landmarks along the way. The scenery was breathtaking – the dramatic coastline, the black sand contrasting with the blue sea, and the feeling of the wind in my hair. We even stopped for a few photos, which Alex expertly captured. It was such a unique way to experience the beauty of Santorini, and I felt a deep connection to the island and its natural surroundings.

After our horseback riding adventure, we were ready for lunch. We decided to try 7 Steak Lounge, which was conveniently located near Pyrgos. This place has a double concept – a classy poolside cocktail bar and a traditional restaurant. We opted for the traditional side, eager to taste some authentic Greek cuisine. The setting was lovely, with views of Pyrgos and the eastern side of the island. I ordered the lamb shank, which was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. My friends tried the steak and seafood, and everyone raved about their meals. It was a delightful lunch, made even better by the friendly service and the relaxed atmosphere.

Our final stop for the day was in search of the picturesque blue domes of Santorini. Of course, no trip to Santorini is complete without seeing these iconic landmarks. We drove to Oia, known for having some of the most famous blue domes on the island. Finding the exact spot for the perfect photo took a bit of searching, but it was well worth it. We wandered through the narrow streets, admiring the white-washed buildings and the stunning views of the caldera. Finally, we found the perfect vantage point, with the blue domes set against the backdrop of the Aegean Sea. The light was perfect, and we snapped dozens of photos, trying to capture the beauty of the scene.

In the evening, we decided to check out Lux Bar Santorini in Fira. After a day of serene exploration, we were ready for some vibrant nightlife. The bar had a great atmosphere, with music, cocktails, and a lively crowd. We enjoyed some delicious drinks and danced the night away, celebrating another wonderful day in Santorini. It was the perfect way to end a day that had been filled with so many different experiences.

As I reflect on today, I’m struck by the diversity of Santorini. From the peaceful shores of Monolithos to the iconic blue domes of Oia, this island has so much to offer. And tomorrow, we're planning to explore the Lost Atlantis Experience, the Santorini Brewing Company, and the Santorini Wine Museum. I'm excited to see what new adventures await us! It's a place where you can find both serenity and excitement, quiet beauty and vibrant culture. It’s a place that truly captures the soul and leaves you wanting more. I’m so grateful to be here, sharing these experiences with my friends, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of our trip holds. I think I will try to find some time to buy some local beads at The Bead Shop to create a memory bracelet for my daughter Alessia. I am sure she would love that.
