Echoes of the Incas: A Day Exploring Juchuy Coscco & Cusco's Charms

Today was a beautiful blend of history and modern-day Peruvian culture. As I continue my solo trek through this incredible country, I found myself exploring ancient ruins and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Cusco. It's days like these that remind me why I love to travel – the opportunity to connect with the past while embracing the present.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Aqllawasi Chichería - Museo. What a unique place! It wasn't just a meal; it was an immersion into Peruvian culture. The restaurant itself is like a living museum, adorned with artifacts that tell stories of the Cusco region. I decided to try their signature chicha, a traditional Andean beverage, and it was unlike anything I've ever tasted. It had a slightly fermented flavor, a testament to the ancient techniques used to create it. The staff was incredibly friendly, sharing insights about each dish and the cultural significance behind them. It's these personal touches that make a dining experience truly memorable. I learned so much about the history of chicha and its importance in Incan ceremonies. It felt like stepping back in time, connecting with the traditions of this land. I think Nang would have really enjoyed this place, she's always been fascinated by local traditions and culinary arts.
After breakfast, I ventured to Juchuy Coscco, or Little Cusco. This archaeological site is perched high in the mountains, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The trek up was invigorating, and as I reached the site, I was immediately struck by the intricate stonework and the sheer scale of the ruins. Juchuy Coscco was once an Inca settlement, possibly an estate of Viracocha Inca, and exploring its remains felt like walking through history. Unlike some of the more crowded tourist spots, Juchuy Coscco offered a sense of tranquility and solitude. I spent hours wandering through the temples and terraces, imagining what life must have been like for the people who once lived here. The site is less crowded compared to more famous attractions, allowing for a more intimate experience as you explore its wonders at your own pace. The panoramic vistas made it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts. I took countless photos, trying to capture the essence of this ancient place. As a photographer, I was in heaven, capturing the beauty of the Andes and the intricate details of the archaeological remains. I made sure to bring an extra battery for my camera, remembering the regret from forgetting to pack extra batteries at the start of this trip.

Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the quiet corners of the world, where history whispers and nature sings.

For lunch, I decided to try PERUCHO Restaurant Craft Beer. After a morning of exploring ancient ruins, I was ready for something a bit more modern. The restaurant had a cozy and charming atmosphere, and I was immediately drawn to their selection of craft beers. I opted for a local brew and a hearty hamburger, which was absolutely delicious. The service was prompt and friendly, and I enjoyed chatting with the staff about the local beer scene. It was a welcome change of pace after a morning of historical exploration. The food was delicious and the prices were fair. I appreciated the homey decor and the charming atmosphere. They offer a variety of Peruvian dishes alongside international favorites, making it a great spot for any palate.

In the late afternoon, I returned to Cusco and took some time to explore the city's vibrant streets. I stumbled upon the Feast of San Bartolomé, a local festival that was in full swing. The streets were filled with music, dancing, and colorful costumes. It was a feast for the senses, and I couldn't help but get caught up in the energy of the celebration. I watched as dancers twirled and swayed to the rhythm of the music, their vibrant costumes a blur of color. The air was filled with the aroma of local delicacies, and I couldn't resist trying some of the street food. It was an incredible experience, a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of this country.
For dinner, I chose Inka Wasi Restaurant, known for its traditional Cusco and Peruvian dishes. I started with the ceviche, which was incredibly fresh and flavorful. For my main course, I had the ají de gallina, a creamy chicken stew that was both comforting and delicious. The restaurant had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and the staff was attentive and friendly. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploring and celebration. They specialize in traditional Cusco and Peruvian dishes, catering to international tastes as well. I also saw that there was live music nearby.

To cap off the evening, I decided to check out Republica Del Pisco - Cusco. The bar had a lively atmosphere, and the bartenders were experts in crafting pisco cocktails. I ordered a classic Pisco Sour, and it was the perfect blend of sweet and sour. I enjoyed chatting with the other patrons, sharing stories of our travels and experiences in Peru. The Republica Del Pisco is known for its extensive selection of pisco cocktails, with expertly crafted cocktails that showcase its versatility. They also have live music. It was a great way to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures. I even learned a bit about how to properly drink pisco.

From exploring ancient ruins to immersing myself in local culture, it's been a day filled with wonder and discovery. And tomorrow, I will be visiting the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and the Temple of the Moon. I'm excited to see what adventures await me as I continue my solo journey through Peru. I'm particularly looking forward to visiting the Mercado Central de San Pedro to pick up some souvenirs for Nang and Ananda.
