A Colorful Farewell

As our family adventure in Jaipur draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we've shared in this vibrant city. Today, we set out to explore a few more gems before bidding adieu to the Pink City. It's hard to believe our nine days here are already up, but we're determined to make the most of our last day!

Our final day began with a hearty breakfast at Fort Restaurant Jaipur. I savored every bite of the traditional Rajasthani dishes, knowing I would soon be missing the unique flavors of this region. Lila especially enjoyed the sweet treats, while Greta appreciated the strong, aromatic chai. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our day of exploration. I am definitely bringing back some of those chai spices to Berlin!

Our first stop was Patrika Gate, located at Jawahar Circle. I'd seen pictures online, but nothing could have prepared me for the explosion of color and artistry that awaited us. Each gate pillar was adorned with intricate paintings depicting scenes from Rajasthan's history, culture, and daily life. It felt like stepping into a living art gallery. The vibrant hues and detailed craftsmanship were simply breathtaking. Greta and Lila were equally mesmerized, wandering through the corridors with wide eyes, snapping photos at every turn.

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.

Lila was particularly fascinated by the depictions of the various Rajasthani rulers and their stories. Greta, with her librarian's eye, appreciated the literary and historical references woven into the artwork. As for me, I couldn't help but admire the sheer skill and dedication of the artists who had created this masterpiece. It was a true celebration of Rajasthan's rich heritage. I was impressed with the fact that the Patrika Gate is open 24/7, so people can enjoy it whenever they want. The visit was free, which is a great thing too.

Next, we ventured into Jawahar Circle itself, one of Asia's largest circular parks. The park was a welcome oasis of green in the bustling city. We strolled along the well-maintained paths, enjoying the cool breeze and the sight of families picnicking on the lawns. Lila was thrilled to discover a playground, where she spent a happy hour swinging and sliding with other children. Greta and I took the opportunity to relax on a bench, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

I have to say, the musical fountain show is something else! The show starts every evening around 7 PM, and it's a spectacle of lights and music that you shouldn't miss. I was also impressed to know that the park has a jogging track and rose gardens, which make it a great place for relaxation. We also found some small kiosks where we bought snacks and drinks.

For lunch, we decided to try Dragon House, a Chinese restaurant that came highly recommended. While I was initially hesitant to stray from Indian cuisine, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and authenticity of the food. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the sauces were bursting with flavor. Lila, always a fan of dumplings, devoured her plate with gusto. It was a delicious and satisfying meal that provided a welcome change of pace.

In the afternoon, we indulged in some retail therapy at World Trade Park. This modern shopping mall was a stark contrast to the traditional bazaars we had explored earlier in the week. Inside, we found a wide array of international and Indian brands, from clothing and accessories to electronics and home goods. Greta was in her element, browsing through the latest fashion trends. Lila was captivated by the toy stores, while I was drawn to the electronics section. I was looking to buy a travel adapter, since I forgot to pack one, but I didn't find one.

It was interesting to see how Jaipur seamlessly blended the old and the new, the traditional and the modern. World Trade Park is really popular among young people, who go there to shop in stores like Zara and Sephora. The mall was inaugurated by Shah Rukh Khan in 2012, and it has been awarded Mall of the Year and Best Architecture by BCI of India. There are also plans to build an underwater restaurant, an auditorium, a banquet hall, and a hotel with luxury rooms in the WTP.

As the day drew to a close, we enjoyed a final Rajasthani dinner at Zarpar - Multi Cuisine - Veg and Non Veg Restaurant. We reminisced about our favorite moments from the trip, from the majestic Amber Fort to the bustling streets of the old city. We savored the spicy curries, flavorful biryanis, and sweet desserts, knowing that these tastes would forever be etched in our memories.

Tomorrow, we'll be heading back to Berlin, filled with incredible memories and experiences. This trip to Jaipur has been more than just a vacation; it's been a journey of discovery, connection, and cultural immersion. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have shared this adventure with my family, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Jaipur, you have captured our hearts with your vibrant colors, rich history, and warm hospitality. Until next time, goodbye!

I am especially happy that Greta and Lila enjoyed the trip so much. It is always a pleasure to see them experience new cultures and learn about the world. I think it is important for Lila to have these experiences, as it will help her to grow into a well-rounded and open-minded person. Even though I miss teaching my students back in Berlin, this trip was a great way to recharge and get inspired. I am excited to go back and share my experiences with them.

As we prepare to leave, I am already thinking about our next family adventure. Perhaps we will explore Southeast Asia, or maybe we will venture to South America. The possibilities are endless! But one thing is for sure: we will always cherish our time in Jaipur, the Pink City that stole our hearts.

I am also grateful for the opportunity to share my travel experiences with you, my readers. I hope that my blog has inspired you to explore new places and cultures, and to create your own unforgettable memories. Thank you for joining me on this journey!

Looking back, I realize how much I've grown as a traveler and as a person during this trip. I've learned to embrace the unexpected, to appreciate the beauty in simplicity, and to connect with people from different backgrounds. These are lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

And now, it's time to say goodbye to Jaipur. But as I do, I know that a part of me will always remain here, in this magical city of colors, culture, and endless possibilities.
