Finding Peace and Paddles in Khao Sok
Today was a day of contrasts, a beautiful blend of spiritual reflection and tranquil adventure in the heart of Khao Sok. Leaving behind the cozy embrace of our bamboo gold house, we set out to explore both the heights of enlightenment and the gentle currents of the Sok River. It’s amazing how a single day can hold such diverse experiences, creating memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Bamboo Gold Houses & Restaurant. Fueled up, we were ready to embrace the day's adventures. The aroma of freshly brewed Thai coffee filled the air, a perfect start to what promised to be a memorable day.

A Spiritual Journey to Khao Na Nai Luang Dharma Park
Our first destination was Khao Na Nai Luang Dharma Park. This temple complex, perched atop a series of mountain peaks, has been on my list since I first started researching Khao Sok. I’m always drawn to places that offer both stunning views and a sense of inner peace, and this park certainly delivered. The drive there was an experience in itself, winding through lush landscapes that showcased the natural beauty of the region. Greta was particularly excited to capture some photos, always eager to document our travels. Lila, ever curious, peppered us with questions about the temples and the monks who resided there.

Reaching the park, the Phutawadi Gate was the first sight that greeted us. It was truly photogenic, and we paused to take some family photos before venturing further. As we ascended, the views became increasingly breathtaking. The park is built on four mountain peaks, each offering a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape. The golden stupa gleamed in the sunlight, a beacon of tranquility amidst the verdant hills. The kids were surprisingly energetic, scampering up the steps with an enthusiasm that put me to shame.
The journey to enlightenment, like a river's course, meanders through moments of reflection and currents of adventure.
I found myself reflecting on the history of the park. It began as a settlement in 1975, a community finding solace and strength in unity. It’s inspiring to see how this place has evolved into a sanctuary of peace and contemplation. As an English teacher, I often find myself drawn to stories of transformation and growth, and the story of Khao Na Nai Luang Dharma Park is certainly one that resonates with me.
Lunch with a View at Scenic View Restaurant
After our spiritual sojourn, it was time for lunch. We headed to Scenic View Restaurant, a name that certainly lived up to its promise. The restaurant is nestled in Ban Ta Khun District, offering panoramic vistas that stretched as far as the eye could see. The weather was kind to us, a gentle breeze rustling through the trees as we savored our meal.

The menu was a delightful mix of traditional Thai dishes, each prepared with fresh, local ingredients. I opted for the green curry, a personal favorite, while Greta chose the Pad Thai. Lila, always a fan of noodles, happily devoured her portion of Pad See Ew. The flavors were authentic and vibrant, a true taste of Thailand. The peaceful atmosphere added to the experience, making it a meal to remember.
Canoeing and Bamboo Rafting on the Khao-Sok River Canoe and Bamboo Rafting
With our bellies full and our spirits high, we embarked on our afternoon adventure: Khao-Sok River Canoe and Bamboo Rafting. I was particularly excited about this, having heard so much about the tranquil beauty of the Sok River. We chose a canoe and bamboo rafting experience, eager to immerse ourselves in the natural surroundings. The gentle current of the river promised a relaxing journey, a chance to spot wildlife and soak in the serene atmosphere.

As we glided along the river, the towering limestone cliffs framed the landscape, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty. The water was crystal clear, reflecting the lush greenery that lined the banks. I spotted a few kingfishers darting through the trees, their vibrant colors a flash of excitement against the verdant backdrop. Lila squealed with delight every time she spotted a fish, her eyes wide with wonder. I tried my best to identify the various birds and plants, drawing on my limited knowledge of the local flora and fauna.
We even stopped at a small cave, where our guide brewed hot coffee over an open fire. It was a truly magical moment, sipping the rich, aromatic coffee amidst the stunning scenery. The warmth of the fire contrasted with the cool air of the cave, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. It was moments like these that made me realize how fortunate I am to be able to share these experiences with my family.
Dinner at The Heaven Bar & Restaurant
As the day drew to a close, we made our way to The Heaven Bar & Restaurant for dinner. The restaurant is known for its enchanting ambiance and diverse menu, a perfect way to end our day of exploration. We settled into a cozy corner, the soft lighting creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu was a delightful mix of Thai and international cuisine, catering to every palate.

I opted for a traditional Thai curry, while Greta chose a grilled seafood dish. Lila, predictably, went for the chicken nuggets. The food was delicious, each dish prepared with care and attention to detail. The service was impeccable, the staff attentive and friendly. As we savored our meal, we reflected on the day's adventures, each of us sharing our favorite moments.
As we prepare for our final day in Khao Sok tomorrow, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences we’ve shared. Tomorrow, we plan to visit Khao Sok The Turtle Bridge and explore the Coral Cave. I'm also hoping to pick up a few souvenirs at Boon Ya Garden before we head off.
