A Fond Farewell

As our Moroccan adventure in the Ourika Valley draws to a close, I find myself filled with a mix of emotions. There's a sense of contentment from the incredible experiences we've shared, a touch of melancholy that it's ending, and excitement for the journey back home to Liam and Kelowna. This last day was all about soaking in the final moments, relishing the stunning scenery, and cherishing the memories we've made with friends.

The day began with a delightful breakfast at Dar Zohra Boutique Guesthouse. The spread was incredible, featuring an array of local pastries, fresh fruit, and of course, the ever-present mint tea. Sipping tea on the terrace, overlooking the valley as the sun rose, was the perfect way to start our last day in this beautiful corner of the world. I made a mental note to try and recreate some of these breakfast dishes back in Kelowna, maybe even surprise Liam with a Moroccan-themed brunch.

After breakfast, we decided to embrace a bit of fun and adventure at Smile Park. It was a surprisingly delightful experience! I wasn't sure what to expect from an amusement park in the middle of the Ourika Valley, but it turned out to be a fantastic way to spend the morning. We laughed, we screamed (mostly on the roller coasters!), and we even indulged in some friendly competition at the paintball center. It was the perfect way to let loose and enjoy each other's company before heading back to our regular lives. I even managed to win a small stuffed camel at one of the game booths – a souvenir for our future kids, perhaps?

For lunch, we ventured to Restaurant La Nature, a charming spot known for its traditional Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant had a cozy, relaxed atmosphere, and we opted for outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful weather. We shared a variety of dishes, including tagine, couscous, and some delicious salads. Everything was bursting with flavor, and it was a wonderful way to savor the last tastes of Morocco before our departure. I tried to capture some food photos, hoping to recreate the dishes back home and share the recipes on my blog.

In the afternoon, we dedicated some time to shopping at Au Fil d'Or. I wanted to find a few special mementos to bring back home, both for myself and for loved ones. The store was a treasure trove of artisanal goods, from intricately woven carpets to beautifully designed ceramics. I ended up purchasing a stunning silk scarf and a few small pottery pieces, perfect reminders of our time in the Ourika Valley. I even found a beautiful kaftan that I think would look amazing on me, perfect for summer evenings back in Kelowna. I was so engrossed in browsing that I almost forgot about the sunglasses I'd left behind, a silly oversight considering how essential they are!

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Chez Larbi Ourika Restaurant Maison d'hôtes for our final dinner. This place was truly special, offering not only delicious food but also a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its authentic Berber cuisine, and we indulged in a feast of traditional dishes. The ambiance was magical, with soft lighting and traditional Moroccan decor creating a truly unforgettable dining experience. We lingered over our meal, sharing stories and laughter, savoring every last bite and moment together. I felt so grateful for these friendships and the incredible experiences we've shared on this trip.

Reflecting on our time in the Ourika Valley, I'm struck by the warmth and hospitality of the Berber people, the stunning natural beauty of the landscape, and the rich culture that permeates every aspect of life here. It's been an immersive and enriching experience, one that I'll cherish for years to come. As much as I love exploring new places, I'm also looking forward to returning home to Kelowna and sharing my adventures with Liam. I know he's eager to hear all about it, and I can't wait to surprise him with some of the treasures I've found here.

Tomorrow, we begin our journey back to Canada. While I'm sad to leave this enchanting place, I'm also filled with anticipation for what lies ahead. This trip has reminded me of the importance of taking time for adventure, for connecting with friends, and for appreciating the beauty that exists in the world. And who knows, maybe our next adventure will be in Ireland, exploring Liam's roots!
