Chasing Waterfalls and Cityscapes in Chefchaouen
Today was all about embracing the natural beauty and panoramic vistas that Chefchaouen has to offer. It's amazing how much the atmosphere of a place can seep into your soul. I'm starting to feel like I'm made of blue myself! From the refreshing cascades of Ras El Ma to the breathtaking City View Point, every moment felt like a scene from a vibrant, living painting. And of course, no day is complete without savoring the local cuisine. Liam and I are making sure to try something new every chance we get!

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Chez Aziz. Liam and I shared some delicious Moroccan pastries and strong coffee. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring. I loved the cozy atmosphere and the friendly staff. We sat on the rooftop terrace, enjoying the morning sun and planning our route for the day. I made sure to jot down some notes in my travel journal, making sure to capture the essence of the moment. Chez Aziz was a delightful start to our Chefchaouen adventure!

Next up was Ras El Ma, a spring just outside the medina. The sound of rushing water was so refreshing, and it was fascinating to see the local women doing their laundry in the stream. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter and the gentle splash of water. It was a slice of everyday life in Chefchaouen, a moment of genuine connection to the community. The water was so clear and cool, a welcome respite from the warming sun. I took some photos, trying to capture the vibrant scene. Liam was fascinated by the ingenuity of the traditional laundry methods. He even tried his hand at scrubbing a shirt, much to the amusement of the local women!
Sometimes, the most beautiful moments are the simplest ones: a shared meal, a refreshing spring, a breathtaking view.
After Ras El Ma, we decided to hike up to the City View Point. The climb was a bit challenging, but the views were more than worth it. From up there, the entire blue city sprawled out before us, a breathtaking tapestry of color against the backdrop of the Rif Mountains. I felt like I was standing on top of the world, or at least, on top of Chefchaouen! The air was crisp and clean, and the silence was broken only by the occasional call to prayer from a distant mosque. Liam and I spent a long time simply soaking in the view, taking photos, and marveling at the beauty of the landscape. I made a mental note to bring my yoga mat up here tomorrow for a sunrise meditation. What a perfect spot that would be!

For lunch, we ventured to Restaurant Lalla Messaouda, drawn in by the promise of authentic Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, with traditional tile work and cozy lighting. We ordered a tagine and some couscous, and both were absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and complex, a testament to the skill of the chef. The staff was incredibly welcoming, making us feel like honored guests in their home. Liam even tried his hand at speaking a few words of Arabic, much to the delight of our server. It was a truly immersive culinary experience. We lingered over our meal, savoring every bite and enjoying the warm hospitality.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we found ourselves at Bar Oum Rabie. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. We ordered some local wine and tapas, and settled in to watch the sunset. The atmosphere was lively and convivial, with locals and tourists mingling and chatting. Liam and I reminisced about our adventures in Thailand, where we first met. It's amazing how travel can bring people together and create lasting memories. The sky was ablaze with color, a fitting end to a beautiful day in Chefchaouen.

Tomorrow, we are planning to delve deeper into the heart of Chefchaouen with a tour of the Blue Medina and a visit to the Grand Mosque. I am particularly excited about the tour, as I'm keen to learn more about the history and culture of this fascinating city. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Grand Mosque, a significant landmark in Chefchaouen. Before that, we will have breakfast in Cafe Sindibad. And if we have time, maybe Liam and I will check out Chefchaouen crafts. It is located close to Restaurant Bab Kasaba, where we will have dinner. I'm sure tomorrow will bring new adventures and unforgettable experiences. It’s going to be another fantastic day exploring this blue paradise!
I'm so grateful for these moments, for the chance to explore new places and connect with different cultures. Chefchaouen is truly a special place, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Oh, and I definitely need to find a travel adapter tomorrow. My phone is almost dead!
