As our Santorini adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we’ve had. Today was all about savoring the last drops of this magical island, from its renowned wines to its captivating history. It’s a bittersweet feeling, knowing that tomorrow we’ll be heading back to Leipzig, but I’m determined to make the most of every moment. Hans and I are both excited to share our memories with Olena when we return.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Almira in Exo Gonia. It’s always a pleasure to start the day with a good meal, and Almira did not disappoint. Though Almira Restaurant is actually located in Kamari Beach, we still enjoyed the great atmosphere and the weather. I had some Greek salad and soup for starters, then a main course of fresh seafood, and also a dessert. Hans had a similar breakfast, and we were both very satisfied.

With our appetites sated, we set off to Santo Wines, a winery I had been eagerly anticipating visiting. Located in Pyrgos, the views from Santo Wines were simply breathtaking. The winery itself is built on several levels, blending seamlessly with the natural environment. It's amazing that the winery receives over 80,000 visitors every year. We took a guided tour, learning about the vinification and aging processes. Of course, the highlight was the wine tasting. We sampled several of their award-winning wines, including the Santorini Assyrtiko and the sweet Vinsanto. I particularly enjoyed the Nykteri, with its citrus and mineral notes. Hans, ever the engineer, was fascinated by the blend of traditional methods and modern technology used in the winemaking process.

After our wine-filled morning, we decided to delve into the myths and legends of Santorini at the Lost Atlantis Experience - Interactive Museum. It was such a unique and fascinating place. The museum uses interactive technologies to bring the story of Atlantis to life. We explored dioramas, holograms, and even a 9D virtual reality experience that simulated the cataclysmic destruction of Atlantis. It was quite the sensory overload. The museum is conveniently located near Megalochori village. The museum is dedicated to Plato's famous myth, where he presented his philosophical theories. I found myself pondering the connection between Santorini and the legend of Atlantis. It’s easy to see how this island, with its volcanic history and stunning landscapes, could inspire such a tale. Hans, with his practical mind, enjoyed the geological explanations and the scientific aspects of the exhibits.

For lunch, we ventured to Ammoudi Bay, a picturesque harbor beneath the village of Oia. We chose Ammoudi Fish Tavern for our meal, and it was an excellent choice. The tavern is right on the water, with stunning views of the volcanic red rocks. We savored fresh seafood while watching the fishing boats bobbing in the Aegean Sea. Hans enjoyed a grilled octopus, while I opted for the lobster spaghetti, a local specialty. We also tried some traditional Santorinian wine, which perfectly complemented our meal. The flavors of the seafood were elevated with herbs, oils, butter or citrus, but never overpowered.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we made our way to Theoni’s Restaurant in Imerovigli for our final dinner in Santorini. Theoni's Restaurant is known for its attention to detail and the layers of taste in each dish. This charming spot offered a romantic ambiance and breathtaking views of the caldera. The food was exquisite, a perfect blend of traditional Greek flavors with a modern twist. I savored every bite, knowing it was our last taste of Santorini’s culinary delights for this trip. Hans and I shared a bottle of local wine, toasting to our wonderful adventure. We reminisced about our favorite moments – the stunning sunsets in Oia, the black sand beaches of Perissa, and the ancient ruins of Akrotiri.

To cap off our last night, we headed to Sun Spirit in Oia for a final drink. This bar is famous for its sunset views, and it did not disappoint. We sipped on refreshing cocktails as the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to Santorini. The Sun Spirit cocktail bar has a fine selection of cocktails and Santorinian wines made from local grapes. The bar's terrace is an idyllic spot to savor the vistas. As the sun began its descent, casting a golden glow on the surroundings, we witnessed a breathtaking sunset spectacle that left us in awe. It was a magical moment, one that I will cherish forever.

As I sit here, writing this final entry, I feel a sense of contentment and gratitude. Santorini has captured my heart with its beauty, history, and charm. I’m so glad that Hans and I were able to share this experience together. It’s strengthened our bond and created memories that will last a lifetime. While I’m looking forward to returning home to Leipzig and sharing our stories with Olena, a part of me will always remain in this enchanting island.

Tomorrow, we embark on our journey back to Germany, filled with memories of stunning sunsets, delicious food, and the warmth of Greek hospitality. Although this chapter of our adventure is closing, I know that new and exciting experiences await us. Until next time, Santorini!

As we prepare to leave, I’m already thinking about our next adventure. Perhaps a trip back to Ukraine to visit my family, or maybe exploring more of Germany with Hans and Olena. The world is full of wonders, and I’m eager to discover them all.
