A Day of Freycinet's Finest

Today was a perfect blend of natural beauty and gourmet indulgence here in Freycinet National Park. From scenic walks to delightful cruises and exquisite meals, every moment was a treat for the senses. It's days like these that remind me why we chose this corner of Tasmania for our family adventure.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Geographe Restaurant and Espresso Bar. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as we stepped inside, and the stunning views of Coles Bay and the Hazards mountain range immediately captivated us. I ordered their signature Eggs Your Way, while David opted for the Bruchetta, and Sophie devoured a stack of pancakes with grilled banana and fresh fruits. The food was delicious, and the friendly service made us feel right at home. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our morning adventure.

After breakfast, we set out for the Freycinet Walk. The crisp morning air invigorated us as we started along the track, surrounded by the unique Tasmanian landscape. The trail wound through diverse terrains, from coastal heathlands to shady forests. Sophie was particularly excited, pointing out all the different birds and plants we encountered. David, ever the photographer, captured the stunning vistas at every turn. I was just happy to be spending quality time with my family in such a beautiful setting. The walk was moderately challenging, with some uphill sections that got our hearts pumping. We took our time, enjoying the scenery and each other's company. I even managed to avoid twisting my ankle this time, which is always a win for me!

The beauty of Freycinet isn't just in its landscapes; it's in the shared moments that make these experiences unforgettable.

Next on our itinerary was the Wineglass Bay Cruises. We boarded the Schouten Passage II, a spacious catamaran, and settled into the comfortable Sky Lounge. As we set sail, the dramatic pink peaks of the Hazards range loomed large, creating a breathtaking backdrop. The cruise took us along the spectacular coastline of Freycinet National Park, past sparkling white sand beaches and hidden sea caves. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, sharing stories about the region's history and wildlife. We were lucky enough to spot a pod of dolphins frolicking in the waves, which was a real highlight for Sophie. The crystal-clear turquoise waters of Wineglass Bay were a sight to behold. The captain explained the bay's history, including its less idyllic past during the whaling days. Despite the somber history, the beauty of the bay was undeniable. We enjoyed a delicious Ploughman's lunch on board, complete with Tasmanian oysters, smoked meats, cheeses, and local wines. It was the perfect way to relax and soak in the stunning scenery.

After the cruise, we made a quick stop at Little Meraki Boutique in Coles Bay. I wanted to pick up a small souvenir to remember our trip, and Sophie was eager to browse the children's clothing section. The boutique had a lovely selection of women's and children's clothing, and I found a beautiful scarf with a Tasmanian design. Sophie chose a cute little dress that she couldn't wait to wear.

As evening approached, we headed to Saffire Freycinet for dinner. This luxury lodge is renowned for its exceptional dining experience, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance was elegant and intimate, and the service was impeccable. We opted for the degustation menu, which featured a series of exquisite dishes made with local Tasmanian produce. Each course was a work of art, both visually and gastronomically. The oysters were incredibly fresh, the Cape Grim beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the honey from Saffire's own hive was simply divine. The sommelier paired each course with a carefully selected Tasmanian wine, enhancing the flavors and creating a truly unforgettable dining experience. Sophie was treated like a little princess, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate her preferences.
