A Day of Serenity and Flavors

Today was a day of simple pleasures and profound beauty, a true immersion into the heart of the Moulay Idriss region. Leaving behind the tech-heavy world of Heidelberg for a while, I embraced the tranquility of nature and the warmth of Moroccan hospitality. It was a day to reconnect with myself and the world around me, a reminder of why I started this journey in the first place.

My day began with a delightful breakfast at SCORPION HOUSE. Set high on a hillside, the views were simply breathtaking. The house itself was a treasure trove of eclectic finds and Moroccan art. Sipping my coffee while overlooking the jumble of whitewashed houses and mosques felt like a scene from a movie. It was a perfect start to a day dedicated to exploration and relaxation.

With a full stomach and a sense of anticipation, I set off to Bab Rmila Natural Park. The park is a short distance from Moulay Idriss, easily accessible by taxi. As I stepped into the park, I was immediately enveloped by the serene atmosphere. The air was crisp and clean, a welcome change from the city. Lush vegetation stretched as far as the eye could see, creating a picturesque landscape that invited exploration.

I spent hours wandering along the well-maintained walking trails, losing myself in the beauty of nature. The park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, and I enjoyed spotting various birds and insects along the way. The tranquility of the surroundings made it an ideal spot for meditation and reflection. I found a quiet corner beneath a towering tree and simply sat there, soaking in the peacefulness of the Moroccan landscape.

“The best view comes after the hardest climb.”

After my nature retreat, it was time to delve into the local culture with a visit to Kasabah Senhaji. This historical site offered a glimpse into the region's rich heritage. Although details about Kasabah Senhaji itself were scarce, I imagined it as a place echoing with stories of the past, perhaps a fortress or a significant dwelling that played a role in the area's history. Exploring its grounds, I felt a connection to the people who once lived there, their lives intertwined with the landscape around me.

For lunch, I decided to try Roman City, a restaurant known for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with friendly staff who were eager to help. I ordered the vegetable tagine, a classic Moroccan dish that was bursting with flavor. The combination of spices and fresh vegetables was simply divine, a testament to the culinary traditions of the region.

In the late afternoon, I sought out Cafe machhour, a local bar where I could relax and enjoy a refreshing drink. The bar had a lively and welcoming atmosphere, with locals chatting and laughing. I ordered a mint tea, a staple in Moroccan culture, and savored the sweet and refreshing taste. It was a perfect way to unwind and soak in the local ambiance.

As the day drew to a close, I made my way to La Baraka for dinner. This restaurant is highly regarded for its traditional Moroccan dishes and cozy atmosphere. I opted for the couscous, another classic Moroccan dish, and was not disappointed. The couscous was light and fluffy, topped with tender meat and flavorful vegetables. The service was impeccable, and the staff made me feel right at home.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, I'm excited to explore Lahdim Square and Le portail de Moulay Ismaïl in Meknes. I plan to start my day with breakfast at Al Andaloussiya Diyafa, followed by lunch at Restaurant Moulay Idriss. In the afternoon, I hope to visit the shop زيارة باب مولاي إدريس before ending the day with dinner at Volubilis. Each day here feels like a new chapter in an unfolding story, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Reflecting on today, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences I've had. The Moulay Idriss region has a way of captivating the soul, of reminding you of the simple joys in life. It's a place where you can disconnect from the world and reconnect with yourself, where you can find beauty in the ordinary and magic in the mundane. As I prepare for another day of exploration, I carry with me the lessons and memories of today, ready to embrace whatever adventures lie ahead.

Before drifting off to sleep, I thought about Maximilian and how much he would have loved today’s adventure. I imagined us hiking together in Bab Rmila Natural Park, his keen eye spotting hidden birds and plants that I would have missed. I pictured us sharing a tagine at Roman City, debating the nuances of the spices and savoring each bite. And I smiled, knowing that even though we are miles apart, we are always connected in spirit, sharing these experiences in our hearts. Maybe next time, we can explore this beautiful region together. For now, I’ll continue to send him pictures and stories, hoping to bring a little piece of Morocco back home to Heidelberg. As I always say, a portable phone charger and a lightweight rain jacket are essential for any trip, which I, unfortunately, forgot. I will purchase them tomorrow during my visit to the shop زيارة باب مولاي إدريس.

The Moussem of Moulay Idriss is a significant annual event that I unfortunately missed, as it usually takes place in September or October. This vibrant religious festival is a major pilgrimage for Moroccans, honoring the founder of the city. The event includes colorful processions, music, and spiritual ceremonies, creating a unique cultural experience. It’s a time when the city truly comes alive, filled with both devotion and celebration. Perhaps I'll plan my next visit to coincide with this incredible event.

As I settle in for the night, I am already looking forward to tomorrow's adventures. The call to prayer echoes through the hills, a soothing reminder of the sacredness of this place. Goodnight from Moulay Idriss, and stay tuned for more tales from my Moroccan journey.
