Amazing day exploring the interior of eastern Crete with our excellent guide Enrico who couldn't have been more accommodating. His English was amazing despite hailing from Italy! Highlights were the olive oil processing plant (yummy tasting and really interesting to hear about how they process the olives), stopping for leisurely stroll and coffee in Krista, the winding drive up to the Katharo Plateau (extraordinary views and so peaceful at the top with no sound other than the wind through the mountains, the sound of goat bells and accessional cry of eagles), lunch at Dimitri's taverna (a consummate host serving simple, yet delicious food and a great story about how his business came to be) and the beautiful great Plain Tree at Krasi. We did enjoy Zeus' cave once in, but be prepared for a big (and in our case hot!) climb to reach it and likelihood of queues at the ticket office). The day is a long one (9am-5pm) and our teenagers were flagging a bit by 3pm so we kept the visit to Krasi and Selinari short. Overall would highly recommend!

I have gone on many tours around the world, including in Greece and Crete, and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. Due to poor communication and customer service on the part of the operator, Viator, and Trip Advisor, I was charged a large sum (and full price) for a tour I did not even go on. My experience and interactions with the operator, Trip Advisor, and Viator were so bad I would strongly recommend against using them in the future (it actually led me to deleting the Trip Advisor and Viator apps altogether).

Our guide today was Michael, and outstanding and outgoing guide. He arrived right on time at 9 am and we began our journey. Since we had previously been to an Olive Oil factory, we went on to drive up the mountain and learn about the goats in the area. Michael had brought along some corn for us to feed the goats and the herd(?) came running upon seeing the car. It was fun playing with the friendly goats and saw some climbing in trees. After that we moved on to a high view of the Lisithi plateau for nice photos. Moving on to the Psychro cave, the reported birthplace of Zeus. There was a fairly steep path going up to the entrance but once in the cave the air was very cool, the cave had decent steps to enter and exit.
We went to eat traditional Greek lunch at Taziapxos tavern nearby the cave , were treated to excellent food, wine and Raki. While there we met the owner who is a native Cretan and was in traditional dress.
Loading up again in the Land Rover we drove to a high mountain pass where a line of very old windmills stood as a testament to the wind powered mills that was once used. We proceeded to the oldest Plain Tree in Krasi village, the trunk is truly impressive.
At the end of our trip Michael was full of information relevant to everything we passed, especially the local flora and fauna being fascinating. The trip was everything we hoped for and Michael was a real treat.

Amazing Trip! We booked the day trip as part of our honeymoon to Crete. We chose this trip as the itinerary covered a lot of things we wanted to see so it was great to see so many things covered in just one day.
We were collected from our hotel exactly at the time agreed.
Our guide was Petra - she was incredibly knowledgeable and in addition to giving us lots of information and stories relating to the itinerary and places we visited on the day, she also gave us lots of tips on places to go and tips for travelling for the rest of our holiday. The itinerary was exactly as described and there was the perfect amount of time allocated for each stop. We liked that it was a small group and Petra was also very easy going and made the day really relaxed. The food was really good at the Taverna stop and a particular highlight for us was the mountain goats! Thank you Petra!
