To reach Koh-e Nazarak by car from the center of Arachosia, start your journey by heading east on the main road. You'll want to take Highway 1, which is the principal route connecting various districts in the region. Continue driving for approximately 150 kilometers until you reach the town of Nahr-e Shahi. From Nahr-e Shahi, follow the signs towards Ghorian. The roads can be rough, so ensure your vehicle is in good condition and consider a 4x4 for better navigation through unpaved sections. After about 50 kilometers, you should be close to the base of Koh-e Nazarak. Park your car at the nearest accessible point and prepare for a short hike to the peak, which is about 5 kilometers away. Be aware of any potential local roadblocks or weather conditions that may affect your travel.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, start your trip from the main bus station in Arachosia. Look for a bus heading towards Nahr-e Shahi or Ghorian. Buses typically depart every hour, and the fare should be around 200 AFN. The journey takes approximately 3-4 hours, depending on road conditions. Upon arrival at Nahr-e Shahi, you can hire a local taxi or a motorbike to take you closer to the base of Koh-e Nazarak. Expect to pay around 500 AFN for this ride. Once you reach the nearest drop-off point, you will need to hike approximately 5 kilometers to reach the peak.
Hiking
For those who are adventurous and already near Koh-e Nazarak, hiking is a viable option. Starting from the base area, follow the established trails leading up to the peak. The hike is moderately challenging, and it is advisable to bring sufficient water, snacks, and appropriate hiking gear. The trail may take about 2-3 hours to reach the summit, depending on your pace. Ensure to check the weather conditions before heading out, as the terrain can be slippery if it has rained.
