Darul Aman Palace, meaning 'abode of peace,' is an iconic building located about 8 kilometers southwest of Kabul, Afghanistan [8, 14]. Constructed in the 1920s during the reign of King Amanullah Khan, it was intended to be the centerpiece of a new capital city and a symbol of Afghanistan's modernization [2, 5, 14]. The palace, designed in a European neoclassical style by German engineer Walter Harten, boasts around 150 rooms and was one of the first buildings in the country to have central heating and running water [2, 5, 7, 8].Throughout its history, Darul Aman Palace has served various purposes, including as a medical school, a warehouse, and the seat of several ministries [2]. However, it has also suffered significant damage from fire, tank fire, and the Afghan Civil War [2, 7]. In 2016, a major renovation project was launched to restore the palace to its former grandeur [2, 7, 15].
