Travel Guide to Qargha Reservoir

Getting There

• Walking

  Start from the center of Kabul, specifically from the famous National Museum of Afghanistan, located at 34.5164, 69.1832. Head west on Karte Char Street (شارع كارت چار) towards the intersection with Maidan Wardak Road. Continue straight for about 2 kilometers until you reach the Kabul River. Cross the river by using the bridge at 34.5515, 69.1650, which will lead you to the other side. Once across, turn right and follow the riverbank north until you reach the Qargha area. Keep walking for another 1.5 kilometers, and you'll arrive at Qargha Reservoir, which is a popular spot known for its scenic beauty and recreational activities.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  From the central bus station located near the Kabul Polytechnic University (34.5331, 69.1716), take a bus heading towards Qargha. Ensure to ask the conductor if the bus goes to Qargha Reservoir, as routes may vary. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. After getting off at the Qargha stop, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the reservoir, which is about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in central Kabul. Start your journey from the main square in Kabul and head towards Karte Char Street. Ride west for 2 kilometers, then take a left onto Maidan Wardak Road. Continue straight for another 2 kilometers until you reach the Kabul River. Cross the river using the bridge at 34.5515, 69.1650. After crossing, turn right and follow the riverbank northward for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach Qargha Reservoir.
