Herat Citadel: A Timeless Fortress

The Herat Citadel stands as a silent observer of Afghanistan's turbulent past [5]. Initially constructed by Alexander the Great, it was later integrated into the northern perimeter of a square walled city by the Ghaznavids [5]. The citadel faced destruction at the hands of Genghis Khan in 1222 but was rebuilt by the Kart dynasty in 1245 [5].
