These towering boulder formations once served as natural shelters for Native American hunters [5, 7].Today, Moss Rock Preserve offers visitors a chance to explore a variety of natural habitats, including pine forests, hardwood forests, mixed pine-hardwood forests, and stream habitats [4, 17]. Scenic Hurricane Branch flows through the preserve, creating picturesque waterfalls, shoals, and cascades [7, 15]. The preserve is home to six rare plant species and a rare variant of Little River Canyon Sandstone Glade, one of only 35 known occurrences worldwide [12, 15].The preserve features approximately 12 miles of hiking trails, catering to all skill levels [3, 12].
