Driving
To reach Cheaha Mountain, take either Exit 191 or 199 on I-20, east of Oxford [11]. Follow the signs toward Cheaha State Park or Talladega Scenic Drive [11]. Then, follow Talladega Scenic Drive (Highway 281) to the park entrance [4, 11]. The park charges an entry fee: $5 per adult, $2 for children (ages 4-11), and $2 for seniors (62+) [3, 4]. Once inside the park, follow the signs to the Bunker Tower at the highest point [21]. Parking is available near the tower [3, 11]. Expect winding roads and scenic overlooks along the way [24]. Note that park admission ceases 30 minutes prior to sunset [4].
Walking
Once inside Cheaha State Park, several trails lead to the highest point [3]. The Leave No Trace Bigfoot Trail is a short, half-mile option [3, 6, 24]. For a longer, more challenging hike, start at Cheaha Lake and take the Lake Trail, which connects to the LNT Bigfoot Trail [3, 6, 13, 24]. This route involves a steep ascent [6, 13]. Park trail maps are available for purchase at the Mountain Store for $2 [6]. Remember to wear appropriate footwear and bring water [6, 13].
