Discover more about Dothan Station

The Dothan Station, located at 201 Depot St, is a significant historical landmark in Dothan, Alabama. Constructed in 1907 by the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, it replaced a smaller depot that had been built shortly after the railroad's arrival in Dothan in 1889. The station quickly became the largest and busiest on the Atlantic Coast Line between Montgomery and Thomasville, Georgia. The station's construction reflects Dothan's rapid growth as a commercial center in the Wiregrass Region. The arrival of the railroad spurred economic and social activity, transforming Dothan into a bustling town. The Atlantic Coastline Railroad connected Dothan to major cities like Montgomery, Tallahassee, and Thomasville, facilitating the transport of goods and people. The two-story brick station features a hipped roof with deep eaves supported by large brackets. The track side has a projecting bay that once served as the ticketing window. The station served passengers until 1979, after which it was used as an office until 1985. In 1989, the City of Dothan purchased the building to prevent its demolition. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Today, the renovated station serves as the headquarters for the Wiregrass Transit Authority.
