Discover more about Pine Beach Trail

Discover the unspoiled beauty of Alabama's Gulf Coast on the Pine Beach Trail, a journey through the diverse ecosystems of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge, aptly named 'safe harbor' in French, protects migratory birds, nesting sea turtles, and the endangered Alabama beach mouse. The 3.5-mile out-and-back trail presents a moderate challenge, rewarding hikers with stunning views and a tranquil escape. Starting from a shady dirt parking area, the path leads through a transition of pine forests to live oak maritime forests. An observation deck offers views of Gator Lake, where you might spot alligators and various bird species. The trail narrows, becoming a levee between Gator Lake and a brackish water basin, teeming with life. It then winds through towering dunes, leading to a breathtaking panorama of the Gulf of Mexico. Rope marks guide hikers, protecting the fragile dunes and nesting areas. The soft, white sand invites you to stroll along the shoreline, enjoying the unspoiled beauty of the Gulf Coast. The trail provides opportunities to connect with nature and appreciate the delicate balance of coastal ecosystems.
