The Hotel Magnolia, located in the heart of downtown Foley, Alabama, is a beautifully preserved landmark that offers guests a unique blend of history and Southern hospitality. Constructed in 1908 by John Burton Foley, the founder of the town, the hotel quickly became a central hub for tourists and residents alike. The building's Colonial Revival architecture, with its broken pediments atop the doors and windows, reflects the elegance of a bygone era.Throughout its history, the Hotel Magnolia has seen many owners and renovations, each adding to its rich tapestry. John and Marjorie Snook, who owned the hotel in the mid to late 20th century, are credited with saving the hotel and other historical structures in Foley. The Snooks also constructed a tunnel connecting the hotel to the former Gulf Telephone Company building across the street. The tunnel served as a convenient way for John Snook to reach his business during inclement weather and also as a potential bomb shelter during the Cold War.Today, the Hotel Magnolia welcomes guests with its warm ambiance and beautifully appointed rooms. The hotel boasts two ballrooms, the Magnolia Ballroom with its crystal chandeliers and the Camellia Ballroom, each offering unique spaces for special events. The hotel also features a fine dining restaurant serving fresh, Southern-inspired cuisine. With its blend of history, elegance, and Southern charm, the Hotel Magnolia offers a memorable experience for those seeking a unique getaway.
