Getting There

  • Driving

    Point Park is located at 110 Point Park Rd, Lookout Mountain, TN 37350. From downtown Chattanooga, follow Broad Street/US-41 S. Turn left onto TN-148 N and continue to the top of Lookout Mountain. Turn right onto East Brow Road. The Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center will be on your left, with Point Park across the street. Free parking is available behind the Visitor Center, but it fills up quickly. Metered street parking is also available. Please note that the parking meters are administered by the City of Lookout Mountain.

  • Public Transport

    From downtown Chattanooga, take the CARTA Route 4 bus towards Lookout Mountain. Get off at the Lookout Mountain stop, and walk about 15 minutes to Point Park. Head up the road towards Point Park Rd and follow the signs to the entrance. A single ride on CARTA costs $1.75.

  • Incline Railway

    Take the Incline Railway from St. Elmo to the top of Lookout Mountain. From the upper station, Point Park is a 5-minute walk. Head west on E Brow Rd, then turn left onto Point Park Rd. A round-trip ticket on the Incline Railway costs $18.95 for adults and $10.95 for children ages 3-12.

Point Park, a 16-acre memorial park, crowns Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, offering visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and Civil War history. Established in 1905, the park commemorates the Battle of Lookout Mountain, a crucial engagement in the 1863 Chattanooga Campaign. Often referred to as the "Battle Above the Clouds," this Union victory helped secure control of Chattanooga. Visitors can explore the park's paved walking paths, which wind past historic tablets, monuments, and Confederate artillery positions. The New York Peace Monument stands as a tribute to reconciliation between Union and Confederate veterans. The Ochs Memorial Museum and Observatory provides exhibits on Civil War signaling, photography, and the Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. From the museum's patio, you can see the Moccasin Bend and the Tennessee River 1,300 feet below. Point Park also serves as a gateway to various hiking trails. The Mountain Beautiful Trail and the Bluff Trail offer scenic hikes with varying levels of difficulty. These trails connect to other historic sites on Lookout Mountain, such as Sunset Rock and Cravens House. Just outside the park, the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center features exhibits on the Civil War campaign for Chattanooga, including James Walker's 30-foot-long painting, "The Battle of Lookout Mountain".
