Pincus Building: A Queen Anne Gem in Mobile

Located at 1 S Royal St in Mobile, Alabama, the Pincus Building, also known as the Zadek Building, stands as a testament to the city's late 19th-century commercial architecture. Designed by local architect Rudolph Benz and completed in 1891, this four-story brick structure is a prime example of the Queen Anne style.The building originally featured a round tower with a spire on its outer corner, but this architectural detail was removed by the 1940s. Additionally, the first-floor exterior has been simplified over the years. Despite these alterations, the Pincus Building retains its historical charm and significance. The building's original tenant was the Zadek Jewelry Company. Later, it was known as the Three Sisters Building, housing Pincus's clothing and men's furnishings store. Today, the building is known as the Three Sisters Building and is home to Compass Bank, the J. L. Bedsole Foundation, and attorney James B. Rossler.The Pincus Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its importance in architecture and commerce. It contributes to the unique character of Mobile's downtown area, which features a mix of 19th and early 20th-century commercial buildings.
