Colonial Fort Condé, a partially reconstructed French fort dating back to 1723, stands as a tangible link to Mobile's rich and complex colonial history. Throughout its history, the fort has been under French, British (as Fort Charlotte), and Spanish (as Fuerta Carlota or Fort Carlota) rule before finally becoming part of the United States. Today's fort is a scaled-down (four-fifths scale) reconstruction of about one-third of the original.
