Discover more about Smith-Byrd House Bed and Breakfast and Tea Room

The Smith-Byrd House Bed and Breakfast and Tea Room, located in the heart of Prattville's historic district, welcomes visitors with its distinct Queen Anne-style Victorian architecture. Built between 1880 and 1884 by Daniel and Ada Ellis Smith, the house boasts a "four over four" design, with four rooms on each of its two floors. Daniel Smith, a local merchant, ensured the home reflected his upper-middle-class status. For many years, the Smith family resided in the house. One of Daniel and Ada's daughters, Miss Mary Smith, a fifth-grade teacher at the nearby Prattville Primary, lived in the home her entire life. In 1960, George and Ginger Byrd purchased the home and owned it until 2001. Beth and David Melling purchased the home in 2007 and transformed it into a bed and breakfast and tea room, opening in March 2008. Today, the Smith-Byrd House offers a unique experience, combining the charm of a historic home with modern hospitality. Guests can enjoy a traditional Southern breakfast with a California twist, sample from over 100 loose-leaf teas in the RoyalTea Room, or explore the gift shop. The house also hosts events such as tea tastings, scone-making classes, and showers.
