Discover more about Frank Lloyd Wright - Rosenbaum House Museum

The Rosenbaum House, located in Florence, Alabama, stands as the state's sole example of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural genius and a prime illustration of his Usonian ideals. Built in 1939 for Stanley and Mildred Rosenbaum, the house reflects Wright's vision of creating affordable and aesthetically pleasing homes for middle-class American families. The house is characterized by its L-shaped design, flat roofs, cantilevered eaves, and the use of natural materials like cypress wood, brick, and glass, seamlessly blending the structure with its surroundings. The open floor plan and large windows create a spacious feel, enhancing the connection between indoors and outdoors. Wright eliminated the basement and attic, opting for hidden storage spaces and embedding the heating system within the concrete floor for radiant heat. The furniture and lighting were also designed by Wright, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic. In 1948, as the Rosenbaum family grew, Wright designed an addition to the home, which included more sleeping arrangements and a Japanese garden. The Rosenbaums lived in the house for 60 years and then the City of Florence acquired the site in 1999. Meticulously restored, the house opened as a public museum in 2002 and is open for tours. Today, the Rosenbaum House stands as a testament to Wright's Usonian principles and a treasured landmark of American residential architecture.
