Getting There

  • Driving

    To reach Crow Point Overlook from Fort Payne, AL, start by heading north on AL-35. Continue for approximately 10 miles, then turn left onto Little River Canyon Rim Parkway/AL-176. Follow AL-176 for about 6.5 miles; Crow Point Overlook will be on your left. Parking is free. Be aware that cell service can be unreliable in the canyon area.

Crow Point Overlook, a highlight of Little River Canyon National Preserve, provides an awe-inspiring view of the canyon's geological majesty. Perched along the Canyon Rim Drive (Highway 176), this scenic spot offers an unparalleled perspective of the Little River as it carves through Lookout Mountain's rugged terrain.Named in honor of James Oscar Crow, Sr., a local benefactor who generously donated the land to DeSoto State Park, the overlook ensures public access to this picturesque vista. From Crow Point, visitors can gaze down 300-foot cliffs to see where Bear Creek and Little River join. The peaceful area is a great spot to enjoy a picnic while taking in the view.The overlook is accessible via a short, semi-steep trail, approximately 100 yards in length. While the descent is relatively easy, the return trip can provide a small workout. The trail and overlook have some boulders, making it somewhat inaccessible to those with mobility issues. Despite the slight challenge, the view is well worth the effort.
