In 2000, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. purchased the building and transformed it into a museum, which opened in 2002.The museum's exhibits celebrate the life and work of Dr. George Washington Carver, the renowned agricultural scientist, while also highlighting the contributions of other African American scientists, inventors, and social progress heroes. Exhibits include the science-themed Discovery Zone, Designing the World We Live In, Black Scientists, Inventors and Explorers, Social Progress Heroes Timeline, and the Dr. Carver Room. Visitors can explore a timeline of social progress, learn about Black inventors, and view art by Black artists.The G.W. Carver Interpretive Museum aims to educate visitors of all backgrounds about the rich historical contributions of African Americans.
