Discover more about BUNK'ART

BUNK'ART offers visitors an immersive and thought-provoking journey into Albania's communist history. Constructed between 1972 and 1978, the five-story underground bunker was designed to shelter Enver Hoxha, Albania's communist dictator, and his political elite in the event of a nuclear attack. The bunker remained a state secret for decades, and it was never actually used.In 2014, the bunker was transformed into a museum and art center, providing a glimpse into Albanian life during the 45 years of communism. Visitors can explore the bunker's 106 rooms, which feature historical exhibits, art installations, and reconstructed rooms that depict daily life during the communist era. The museum delves into themes such as propaganda, the persecution of enemies, repression, and information control. BUNK'ART also integrates contemporary art exhibitions, creating a unique contrast between the bunker's history and modern artistic expression.Visitors can see the offices of former leaders, a typical communist-era apartment, and a grocery store, offering a tangible sense of life during that period. The museum also presents historical facts, documents, and testimonies from the past, with information available in both Albanian and English. BUNK'ART is located on the outskirts of Tirana, near the entrance to Mount Dajti's cable car station.
