Monument „Saint Naum“

The Monastery of Saint Naum, also known as Sveti Naum, is a magnificently massive complex located on a plateau close to the Albanian border. This Eastern Orthodox monastery, founded in 905 by Saint Naum of Ohrid, a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius, stands as one of the most attractive Macedonian tourist destinations. Overlooking Lake Ohrid, the monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views of the bay area. The church, rebuilt in the 16th century in the Byzantine style, features multi-domed architecture. Inside, you can find the tomb of Saint Naum; legend says that if you listen closely, you can still hear his heartbeat. The complex includes a tranquil garden with fountains, roses, and peacocks. Visitors can explore the stunning frescoes, wander through the peaceful gardens, and take boat rides on the lake to appreciate the scenery. Nearby springs feed Lake Ohrid, offering crystal-clear waters and serene beauty. The monastery has a rich history, once serving as a Greek school in the 16th century and briefly belonging to Albania in the early 20th century.
