Trip of a lifetime in the beautiful Albanian Alps

Our daughter had recommended a trip to North Albania after she had visited in summer 2025. I chose Go As Local because they were very responsive and helpful to my questions via email (thank you Riserd) and because the trip involved all meals bar lunch on the last day, all accommodation and transfers. I’m so pleased that we chose this tour operator. We were the only two booked on our particular dates and even though it was advertised as a group tour they honoured our booking so effectively we had a private guided tour. Our tour guide, Redi was exceptionally good. He was very professional, had excellent English, welcoming, knowledgeable and had clearly built very good relationships with the owners of the guesthouses we stayed in so we started each day with a transfer to the start of the ascent. Riserd also understood very quickly that my husband walks at a quicker pace than me so he set the pace really well and I never felt like I was holding us up. The Accursed Mountains are absolutely stunning. We were blessed with ideal weather for hiking - blue skies, temperatures in the mid 20s and no rain. The 3 days of walks are strenuous but so rewarding - I was very glad to have walking poles. Good walking boots are a must and a decent level of fitness. You have to carry your backpack with 5 days of stuff - in hindsight I didn’t need my swimming stuff and towel because the water is absolutely freezing despite looking very inviting! I did the 10-day tour in August. Beautiful and very varied landscapes, sometimes challenging route, motivated and very close-knit international group. An experience that I absolutely recommend to mountain lovers, especially with the two guides Mentor and Astrit.

Amazing Experience

This trip was amazing. Beautiful scenery and vistas along the walk. The guesthouses were well equipped, clean, and comfortable. The locals are very friendly and hospitable. The whole trip was well organised by Choose Balkans. Brikena was my point of contact. We met the day before the trip to discuss the itinerary, and she kept in contact throughout the trip to make sure everything was running smoothly. She was friendly and very helpful.
