Tirana Park: A Green Oasis in the City
Escape the city buzz in Tirana's largest green space, offering recreation, history, and natural beauty for everyone.
Tirana Park, or Parku i Madh i Tiranës, is a large green area located south of the city center, easily accessible from Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard. Built between 1955 and 1956 based on a Bulgarian plan, it was initially called the Gogo stable area. The park spans approximately 289 hectares and features a 55-hectare artificial lake created in 1955 through volunteer work. The park offers a diverse landscape with around 120 species of trees, bushes, and flowers. Within its boundaries, you'll find the Royal Palace, which briefly served as a residence for King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy in 1941. Other notable features include the Saint Procopius Church, memorials to British, Australian, and German soldiers from World War II, and the tombs of the Frashëri brothers and Faik Konitza, significant figures in Albanian history. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including walking, running, cycling, and fishing. The park also has an amphitheater that hosts cultural events, especially during the summer months. With cafes and restaurants scattered throughout, it's easy to spend a relaxing day surrounded by nature.
