Its strategic position, approximately 329 meters (1,079 feet) above sea level, provided a commanding view of the surrounding landscape, including the Erzen valley.Throughout its history, Petrelë Castle has played a significant role in Albanian defense. It served as a signaling post for Krujë Castle, with fires lit to warn of approaching invaders. In the 15th century, during Skanderbeg's resistance against the Ottomans, the castle was commanded by Skanderbeg's sister, Mamica Kastrioti. The present structure largely dates back to this period, showcasing a triangular design with two observation towers.Today, Petrelë Castle is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its historical significance and panoramic views.
