The bus crosses the main road and stops near tourist sites, such as the bridge of Gorica, Mangalem quarter and the city center. Get off near Republic Boulevard and walk towards the cathedral. It was constructed after the earthquake of 1851, with people of all faiths in Berat praying to St. Dimitri for protection from future earthquakes.The cathedral's architecture showcases a blend of Ottoman and Byzantine influences, reflecting Berat's diverse history. The serene atmosphere invites visitors to pause and reflect.In 1922, the church was declared a cathedral but was later destroyed during the communist period. The new Cathedral of St. Dimitri was completed in 2008 and consecrated on April 12, 2009. The cathedral has undergone further enhancements, including the installation of a magnificent wooden iconostasis in 2010 and the addition of an electronic bell system in 2016. Today, the cathedral stands as a testament to the resilience of the Albanian Orthodox community throughout the years.
