Clock Tower of Elbasan Travel Guide

The Clock Tower of Elbasan, also known as Kulla e Sahatit, is a significant historical and cultural monument located in the city center. Built in 1899 during the Ottoman period, with contributions from local merchants and residents, the tower stands as a testament to the city's rich heritage. It is considered a first category cultural monument.The tower has a square floor plan, measuring approximately 4x4 meters, and rises to a height of 30 meters. Constructed with a combination of stone and wood, it showcases classical Ottoman architectural influences. The clock's old mechanism continues to attract visitors. Originally, the tower housed a church bell that could be heard from 5-6 km away, but it was replaced during the Balkan Wars.Located within the Elbasan Citadel, next to other cultural monuments, the Clock Tower is a prominent landmark that attracts both local and foreign tourists. While visitors can't climb to the top, the tower's observation can easily be included in a walk around the fortress.
