Commissioned by Kara Mahmud Bushati, the local Ottoman Pasha, the bridge was strategically built to connect Shkodër with Drisht and other northern settlements. This infrastructure project enhanced trade, military movements, and administrative control in the region.The bridge spans 108 meters in length, 3.4 meters in width, and reaches a height of 12.5 meters. It comprises 13 stone arches, with the central arch measuring approximately 21.5 meters. Constructed in two phases, the bridge showcases traditional Ottoman architectural elements, featuring round, smooth stones and stone plates. The varying shapes and sizes of the arches add to its picturesque charm.Today, the Mesi Bridge is a highly-treasured cultural monument and a significant tourist attraction. The Albanian Development Fund invested 13 million lekë to improve access, allowing tourists to experience the bridge more closely. Visitors can stroll across the bridge, taking in the stunning views of the Kir River and the surrounding landscape. The bridge's historical and architectural significance, combined with its serene environment, makes it a must-see destination in Albania.
