Preza Fortress, a medieval castle located in Prezë, Albania, offers visitors a captivating journey through time. Originally built by the Byzantine emperor Justinian in the 550s, the castle was expanded in the 14th and 15th centuries by the Thopia family, a local Albanian feudal family. During the 15th century, it became a vital stronghold in the Albanian resistance against the Ottoman Empire led by Skanderbeg. The fortress's strategic location allowed it to play a crucial role in visual communication, exchanging signals with the castles of Kruja, Petrela, Durrës, and Ishmi. The fortress features an irregular pentagonal shape with four towers and a clock tower erected between 1800 and 1850.
