Discover more about Tirana Park

Tirana Park, officially known as the Grand Park of Tirana (Parku i Madh i Tiranës), provides a refreshing escape from the urban environment. Covering 289 hectares, the park was created between 1955 and 1956 based on a Bulgarian design and was once called the Gogo stable area. It was later known as the 'Park of Saint Procopius' after the Saint Procopius Church, which is located within the park. The park's centerpiece is a 55-hectare artificial lake, constructed in 1955 by volunteers, offering opportunities for fishing and swimming. The surrounding landscape features around 120 species of trees, bushes, and flowers, contributing to the park's biodiversity. The Botanical Garden, spanning 14.5 hectares, showcases a variety of native Albanian plants. Within the park, visitors can find several landmarks and memorials, including the Royal Palace (which briefly served as a residence for King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy in 1941), memorials to British, Australian, and German soldiers from World War II, and the tombs of the Frashëri brothers, who were important figures in Albanian history. The Tirana Lake Amphitheatre hosts various cultural events, especially during the summer months. While in the park, be sure to visit the Taiwan Center, which has cafes and restaurants. You can also find the Zoo and a complex of swimming pools. The park is easily accessible from Skanderbeg Square, with the main entrance located at the end of Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard. The park is considered the "Lung of the City" because of its diverse plant life.
