Local tips

  • Bring your passport, as Mount Korab straddles the border and checks may occur.
  • Hike between May and October for the most favorable weather conditions.

Getting There

  • Car

    From Skopje, North Macedonia, drive west towards Mavrovo National Park. The drive takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes. Continue past Mavrovi Anovi towards Trnica. Turn right at the Reka-Mavrovo river towards the village of Nicpur and the Strezimir army facility. The hike begins near Strezimir. Be warned that the final 15 km to Strezimir is an unpaved road and can take about 40 minutes. Parking is available outside the facility or along the road. Note: A 4x4 is recommended for the unpaved road. Park entrance fee to Mavrovo National Park is 30 MKD (0.5 Euro) per person per day. This can be purchased online or at the Information Point just outside the village Mavrovi Anovi.

    From the Strezimir army facility (the trailhead on the North Macedonian side), the hike to the summit of Mount Korab is approximately 19.11 km out and back with an ascent of 1509 m. The hike is considered moderate to hard and takes about 6-7 hours to complete. Follow the red and white markers along the trail. The last source of water is at the start of the hike, so bring plenty of water. Note: Carrying your passport is advisable, as checks may occur.
