    Discover more about Tiranë

Tirana, the capital city of Albania, is a dynamic metropolis that has undergone a dramatic transformation since the fall of communism. Once a rather gray and austere city, Tirana has blossomed into a vibrant hub of culture, art, and commerce. The city's colorful buildings, a project initiated by former mayor Edi Rama (now the Prime Minister), inject a sense of playfulness and optimism into the urban landscape. Skanderbeg Square, the heart of Tirana, is a vast open space named after the Albanian national hero. Here, you'll find the National History Museum, the Et'hem Bey Mosque, and the iconic Clock Tower. The square is a meeting point for locals and tourists alike, and a great place to start exploring the city. Remnants of Tirana's communist past can be found throughout the city, most notably in the Pyramid of Tirana, originally built as a museum to Enver Hoxha, the country's former dictator. Today, it serves as a cultural center. For a deeper dive into this era, visit Bunk'Art 1 and Bunk'Art 2, two underground bunkers transformed into museums that chronicle Albania's communist history and the experiences of its citizens under the regime. Beyond the historical sites, Tirana boasts a thriving café culture, particularly in the Blloku district, once an exclusive area for communist elites. Today, it's a popular spot for trendy cafes, bars, and restaurants. The New Bazaar (Pazari i Ri) is another must-visit, offering a taste of local life with its fresh produce, traditional products, and lively atmosphere. Tirana is also a city of green spaces, with the Grand Park of Tirana providing a welcome escape from the urban bustle. Located around an artificial lake, the park offers opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
