Getting There

Driving

From Tirana, head northwest on SH1 towards Lezhë/Shkodër. After approximately 40 km, turn onto the road towards Cape of Rodon. Follow the signs; the road is mostly asphalt but can be rutted in places. Continue until you reach the parking area near the Church of St. Anthony. From there, it's a walk to the castle ruins. Parking is free. Note that the last few kilometers may be an off-road adventure.
Public Transport

From Tirana, take a bus to the town of Thumanë. From Thumanë, you will need to take a taxi to the Cape of Rodon. The bus from Tirana to Thumanë costs approximately 150-200 Lek. A taxi from Thumanë to the Cape of Rodon will cost approximately 3,000-4,000 Lek. Confirm the price with the driver before starting your trip.
Walking

From the parking area near the Church of St. Anthony, follow the coastal path towards the tip of the Cape. The walk to Rodoni Castle takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Be prepared for uneven terrain and some rocky sections. Note that the path may sometimes be closed, requiring you to walk along the coast (which may be littered with trash).

Rodoni Castle, also known as Skanderbeg Castle, sits on the Cape of Rodon, a rocky peninsula jutting into the Adriatic Sea. Built in the mid-15th century (circa 1450-1452) by Albania's national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the castle served as a strategic coastal defense against the Ottoman Empire.Skanderbeg chose this location to provide a quick escape route to the Adriatic Sea in case of invasion. The castle's walls stretched approximately 400 meters. Although much of the original structure was destroyed by Ottoman forces in 1467, it was rebuilt by the Republic of Venice in 1500.Today, visitors can explore the atmospheric ruins, including outer walls and a tower, while enjoying panoramic views of the Adriatic coastline. Coastal erosion has submerged some of the walls, adding to the site's mystique. Nearby, discover the Church of St. Anthony, dating back to the 13th century, a pilgrimage site adorned with frescoes. The cape itself offers hiking trails, beaches, and diverse marine life.
