According to the legend, the three brothers building the castle were unable to complete it because the walls collapsed each night. They sought the advice of a wise old man who told them they needed to sacrifice one of their wives by burying her alive in the walls. Rozafa, the wife of the youngest brother, accepted this fate on the condition that she be left with her right eye, hand, foot, and breast exposed so she could care for her infant son.
